Hooper and Bourgault

These 2 look about as automatic as you can get from 3 pt range if left open enough. I know Hooper can't play until next year, but you can clearly see these guys know how to shoot. With Branch coming in Dec. he will be a big factor in getting them open looks. Bourgault, Hooper, and Harrison from 3, and Sampson, Sanchez, Gift, Branch etc. inside. Obekpa grabbing boards. I don't want to look too much into it, but I really think this group will be special IF they stay healthy.

I think Bourgault is the X-factor on this team. Outside of Bourgault we really don't have a second shooter we can depend on to regularly drain deep shots. He is also an older kid that can pass and handle. It's going to come down to how he and his surgically repaired knee can handle the speed and physicality of the Big East.

Teams are going to prepare for STJ by making sure Harrison is constantly marked and at the very least shadowed by one extra defender. They are going to dare STJ to beat them shooting the ball, and Marco is going to need to be the guy to make them pay for that. The biggest weakness this team has is the lack of a second true shooter and scorer.

Harrison, and Hooper can also regularly drain deep shots too. Second true scorer? Why not Sanchez or Sampson?

Hooper isn't eligible this season. Sampson and Sanchez are not big-time scorers. They aren't the type of guys you handle the ball to and say "do something with it."

I think my original post was unclear...I am counting Harrison on the only legit shooter and scorer we have. I am hoping Bourgault can be the #2. I think we have a bunch of guys that can put the ball in the basket, but when the going gets tough, you really need another guy besides Harrison that you can depend on.

Sanchez seemed to have no problem at all getting to the hoop...I know it was only a scrimmage, but he is seasoned. He should at least have a decent inside game like Gift. We aren't Duke...we don't just shoot people off the court...we try to go for the layup or dunk first, then we kick it out beyond the arc if we can't get in the paint. Teams like Duke get lots of pure shooters and don't really need to get into the paint so they just shoot jumpers all day. How is Sampson not a big time scorer? He is a monster in the paint. These are almost all top players...it's not like they just started playing basketball...I have faith that most of the team can put the ball in the hoop other than D'Lo.

Scoring is still going to be a problem. And you're right, we would prefer to play a slashing game; but teams are going to zone the crap out of us again this season, and that takes away a lot of the lanes and will put a premium on entry passes.

You're being generous saying Gift has a "decent inside game". He has athleticism and can make an uncontested dunk or layup.
Sanchez will do a little of everything, and I'm really happy he's here... he'll help the offense immensely by what he does without scoring. But he can't be looked at as more than a third option, offensively.

Jakarr could be the guy. But I wouldn't count on it out of the gate. He scored by over-powering guys and on put-backs, those aren't as easy at this level.

Outside of D'angelo we don't have another established scorer. That's what we'll be looking for between now and when conference play starts. I imagine the staff will tinker with the lineup endlessly until then.
