Hoop Dreams / St. John's Grad / Westchester Knicks

Looks like he's got a bright future ahead, whether as GM somewhere or in a different role he enjoys and skilled at.

Tremendous respect for these kids who grind it out and follow their dreams in sports. Not easy.

In '94, I had a paid internship in with NY Mets PR dept. via St. John's, at same time I had student job in our athletic dept.

Basic office stuff, as well as odd or fun stuff on game days after season started in April. Most bizarre was having to sit in stands before games w/ clipboard and stopwatch to record which players were signing autographs, locations and length of time they signed.

MLB strike came in Aug. and internship disappeared by Labor Day. Teen dream of being future big time sports exec was crushed. The strike made me recognize that pro sports was really just a glamorized business. Lost interest in pursuing a sport related career after that.

Beyond the school jobs in AD,  I had one last sport internship at Hofsta facilities dept for Jets training camps. That was fun. Saw Parcells all summer and drove him in a golf cart around campus a few times. I'll never forget seeing how brutal he was to Aaron Glenn having him shag highly tossed balls mimicking kickoffs. Wouldn't let him leave field until he could catch and hold like 5 footballs without dropping all of them.  Best memory was assisting at a photo shoot for GQ magazine with Keyshawn Johnson, Kyle Brady and Hugh Douglas. A bunch of models too. Took an entire day for a handful of pics. Could tell Keyshawn had a big personality made for TV.
