Hoiberg Canned

Fred Hoiberg has been fired from his head coaching position with the Chicago Bulls. It is expected that he will be a top candidate for college basketball head coaching vacancies after this season. That seems potentially very bad for us but perhaps i'm being paranoid.

Clearly :)

If DePaul were to decide to move on from Leitao after the season, they would be wise to get on the phone with Hoiberg and offer him anything he wants. He could keep his current suburban Chicago home...

Take this for what it’s worth but i have a friend who knows hoiberg. He said he absolutely hated recruiting and has no eye on a college return . That being said I’m sure a big money deal would woo him but i bet he stays out and looks for NBA work .
not familiar with Hoiberg's situation but I'm sure he wasn't dressing well enough
You are getting funny in your old age.

That's what Matt is for.

Plus if there is another college destination in the cards, he showed enough at Iowa State that a school that's a lot easier to recruit at will come calling.

Agree that Matt leaving would be rough. I wonder if there is anything we can do to protect ourselves?

Da Mayor did a terrific job at Iowa St. Some buzz that he would be a top candidate at UCLA if things go south this year for Alford. I don't see it. He did a great job at Iowa St with a very unorthodox way of recruiting especially with the use of transfers and a lot of borderline academic kids. At a blue blood like UCLA that is not going to work. He would have to change his recruiting philosophy and recruit the more traditional top 20/30 kid with solid academics. Don't see it. Matt wouldn't work out there.

I'm no Zagsblog reader and just clicked this article. Is this his typical style of journalism where he just names multiple anonymous sources for quotes? There's no quote from any actual named person in here. I hope he really has Pac12 sources and just isn't making up quotes....
another raise coming since we have no-one else recruiting hard

I'm concerned they might do something stupid like get mad at him and can him if he asks for more money.

1) we should have another recruiter anyway.
2) Matt is indisposable at this time and he loves SJU and is a grad. Gotta treat him right the way winning programs treat their coaches.

I still think we need more recruiters, but Matt has proven his worth and then some. Make sure he stays around.

Double standards are amazing on this one lol...MZ floats possibility of Matt leaving and hell breaks lose. Anyone else mentions it and civil discussion ensues. Just noting as such because it's so blatant. That being said, are there any actual rumors of this possibility?

plus I didnt saying he is leaving just potentially asking for a raise which is fact based on history and Will Wade

And not a wild thought at all. I agree with you it's a concern. As for "cred", people give up eventually if they realize it will never be attainable. Not saying that in a woeful way, just stating fact. If people don't want to let you in, that's on them. I think Matt A is absolutely crucial for us to keep and if we had another legit recruiter to help more with HS kids, we would be doing better on that front I'm sure. It's a risky model the way it's currently constructed.

Bigger topic I see is Mullins contract status.

Harder to recruit kids going to end of contract period.

Let's hope team reaches NCAA..., then discuss who deserves raises, extensions etc.and Mullins interest to keep at it beyond year 6. That would be ideal vs another do over
