It's a play on words

The vast majority of the roster is FROM New York

Thanks for the breakdown. I got it...it doesn't make it any less pointless. First, I don't care where we get our players from. Second, they only have 4/13 members of their roster from NY (not a vast majority like you said)--we have SIX that played high school basketball in New York: JDR and ADR from the Bronx, Ndaiye from Queens, Keith Thomas from Mt. Vernon, and CO and Balamou from OSNA in Long Island. We also just graduated three kids that played JUCO in New York--two in NYC. Third, we are the much better team in the short term and long term.

Their number is increasing as the author pointed out

I never said we aren't better short or long term and I don't recall the author saying that

You listed two players who won't leave the bench this year in Ndaiye and JDR

Lastly we will differ on whether we consider Chris Felix Orlando and Marco as New Yorkers

Enjoyed this banter. Looking forward to the next ultra optimistic post :)

You can't believe everything you read (unless it is a Marillac post). Hofstra has commitments from two NY kids for next year, but they also lose a NY'er to graduation. Net gain +1. We are finalists for Briscoe and Diallo, and I'd be shocked if we don't pickup a local kid or two to add--perhaps a JUCO looking to come home.

Plus, look at these so-called NY kids on Hofstra. One, Nichols, played in Maine for two years and another is from Staten Island. Briscoe is more NY to me than a kid from Staten Island.

You're better than this, Moose! You should start bantering with lightweights like Johnnyfan before you work you way back up to the big boys. Tyson didn't go back to being Tyson overnight after jail.

Give it a rest. Not everybody is out to "get" our program.
Hofstra signed a nyc kid, they'll have a ny/ny backcourt. That's all the article is trying to say. Good for hofsta, it has nothing to do with our outlook or ability. It's just congratulating Hofstra on getting a recruit.
jeez

I think Zach is a great reporter and fan of the program. I don't think anyone is "out to get" our program. I do think we have a bunch of trolls in our fan base that expected too much too soon and now have to turn everything into a negative thread when they are about to finally get what they've been waiting for.

A kid from Brooklyn who went to prep school in Maine and a kid from SI aren't NY'ers. But of course if they played for SJU you would flip on that.

There is no point in trying to banter with you honestly. The program and the school can do no wrong. Lavin can run over a bunch of puppies tomorrow and you would find some excuse. Keep on talking in the 3rd person and digging up posts where you accurately predicted something. Once in awhile try to pull up the ones that you were wrong on though. It's good to keep things fresh ;)

Zach is a reporter and shouldn't be a FAN of any program. Do you recall he wrote the scathing piece about Lavin middle of last year?

Those are very hard to find ;)

Hofstra basketball had its heyday when Jay Wright had a very nice run which led to his Villanova hiring. A generation before that Digger Phelps did the same at Fordham. Neither program approached that level of success again. Wish Hofstra success. There is plenty of room for nationally prominent teams from NYC without hurting SJU at all.

I trolled this thread because I said it was unfair for you to attack Zach over this article? How is that turning the thread negative?
The whole premise of your posts -that the article is pointless because we are really ny's team, is negative and defensive.
I'll say it again; not everything is an attack on SJU, you, or coach Lavin.

And I very much want what you say to be true, regarding getting what we've been waiting for. But I truly don't see how you could've watched this core of players for the past 3 seasons and say now we're going to start winning big games. Theres just no evidence for that. I hope we do, but it would be truly special and surprising. You seem to expect great play this season, and I can't understand what you base that expectation on.

Good for Hofstra. I'm certain it pisses off Syracuse, who is spending tens of thousands trying to convince folks that their ACC team is NY than it does anyone here, but it is good to see Hofstra picking up good kids and providing the dream for some quality youngsters. .

The article is pointless because the premise behind it--that Hofstra has more kids from NY on its roster than other college teams in NY-- is completely false. Hofstra has four kids from NY on its entire roster (one will graduate after this season). St. Francis has NINE kids from NY, Manhattan has eight, and Fordham has seven. Both schools that Zach calls out by name, SJU and Syracuse, have six New Yorkers currently on their respective rosters. Syracuse already has one NY and two NJ commits for 2015. As Otis has pointed out a million times, SJU doesn't currently have a commitment for 2015.

I know Zach was trying to be cute here, but Hofsta doesnt have a lot of kids from NY--Rutgers has the same and they are better.

So if you think my initial reaction of "C'mon Zach!" is negative and defensive...that's fine. It's not worth the debate. By this measurement, Suny Cortland is New York's team since they have 17 kids from New York. They don't even bother listing the state the kids are from.
