Harkless to reporters nba a possibility

I hope Mo will listen to Lavin and other coaches and makes the right decision (which is to stay)
If he keeps it up he will be top 15 next year.

he improved from 38th best high school senior in the country to about 34th in the world.

i'll admit i'm selfish...but another year of real coaching and he'll get serious money as a lottery pick.

It is what it is. If he goes, he goes. There isnt much anyone can really do about it. I saw nearly every game this year and I thought he could use some weight/muscle, and a better outside shot. When he played against Anthony Davis from Kentucky he was definitely outplayed. Another year and he is a lottery pick. But if it is best for him and his family for him to go, then he will. We will miss Moe and there should be no regrets. He came to stj when others wouldnt with the hope of rebuilding the program. If we didnt have the ineligible players this year, I am sure we would have been top 20 and competing for an elite 8 or better spot in the tournament.

Agree 100%.

Of course as a St John's fan I want Moe to come back. However, the whole "he should come back to get stronger" or "he should come back to work on his outside shot" arguments are flawed. Do they not have coaches to work on your form in the NBA?? Do they not have weight rooms to help you get stronger in the NBA?? In FACT, because of ridiculous NCAA offseason rules, Moe would get MORE individualized instruction if he chose to go to the NBA rather than staying in college.

What the real argument(s) here are: 1. the likelyhood of being a 1st round draft pick (because money isn't guaranteed in 2nd round) and 2. will he go to a team where he could move into a somewhat prominent role within his first few years. If he's not playing much his first few years, the chances of getting a decent or good 2nd contract decreases dramatically. It's almost as much about WHICH teams want you rather than what draft pick they want you at.

If you go look at the NBA rookie pay scale, there isn't that much financially separating the 15th pick from the 25th pick.

With that said, I can never EVERRRRR fault someone for passing up a $30,000 a year job for a high 6-figure or 7-figure job (even if that job is overseas). As an SJU fan I hope Moe is back but I absolutely support whatever decision he, his family and those advising him make.

Moe seems like a really well-grounded young man. I'm sure, with the help of his family, advisors and the staff, he's going to make a very rational, factual-based decision. I don't think he's going to make an ego-driven choice like Omar Cook and many other kids do and then drop off the face of the basketball map, when their inflated opinion of their self-worth doesn't pan out.

This is going to play out soon enough and whatever Moe decides I'm going to respect as what is best for him.

I'd love to have him back though.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet but SJU79 over on the jungle said this morning that he just got word that Moe will test the waters (what I took to mean he'll talk it over with those close to him) but that he's 99% coming back and it was very dependent on him not having to play the 5 and instead playing the 3/4. This is also very encouraging because if it's true (and the regulars know SJU79 is extremely reliable) it also sounds like we've got big men lined up and ready to come here. Someone else on that thread also said his uncle was close to Moe's mom and that she'd "smack him up and down if he thought he was gonna be one and done" or something to that nature, which pretty much lines up with the NY Post article today. We obviously know that kids can change their minds and we've also learned that even though posters are extremely reliable we should still take everything with a grain of salt, but it all sounds pretty encouraging. I fully expect Moe back in Queens next year.

I think that speaking for most of us, if Mo leaves, we will all root for him to make it HUGE in the NBA. ANy reservations here are all in his best interests, and not wanting to see him throw away his college eligibility and then become just another d-League guy who could have been,

Good luck Mo. Make the right decision, and if big money is going to be there, go for it.

Lavin is saying to Moe, "Moe, I need you, I love you and you need to stay one more year. I will do everything in my power to get you more money and more exposure and improve your game even better next year". "And, I'll be back on the sidelines next year along with more player and more depth". We'll be better, win more and you'll have more fun, and you'll be a rock star next year. Period.. Give me one more Year, Moe.. One More!!!

Sell it Lav, because it is true.

Beast, nice summary, you captured my feelings, and others, for him as well.
I want him to stay like all of us, but I think he should stay for his own sake IF we can
get some big bulk underneath so he can really showcase his skills and develop that outside shot further.
I don't believe the pro game is that place to polish the unfinished, potentially outstanding player. In the end, the pro game is all about the dollar. If you aren't ready to be on the court, you can leave and get polished in the development league. That is, if you don't decay on an NBA bench for too many years.
There is much to said about your life in retrospect if your college career was also marked by some highlghts of team success, especially if that team is in NYC and it's your home town. Harkless can live in legend, like Mullen, for decades if he is part of a team that brings us back as well. I'm not saying he should compromise his future for us; but i think his signing bonus, his pro career and his life beyond the pros could all be enhanced by staying vs "taking a chance" that going early now will be as beneficial.
The odds favor a better outcome for him in the long run if he stays a year more, at least.
