To all.
For those who are fathers we all know that nothing compares with the joy of watching our children grow up and succeed. Take pride in your hard work that you have invested in your children.
For those that are sons or daughters go see your father and let him know you are thankful for the time, effort, guidance and love that he has given you. One day your father won't be there to accept the thanks.
May all the fathers on this great board have a wonderful day.

Happy Father's Day Aubie! Your kids are very lucky to have a basketball junkie for a dad! :) My dad is 91 and thinks Lou Carnesecca should return to coaching the redmen.

Just want to add this caveat (from one who has worked in the courts most of life), perhaps obvious: not all boys have fathers; not all boys/girls have loving fathers. This is true in all facets of our society and of course in the realm of kids and fans in the college basketball arena.

Thank God for surrogate adults (coaches, older siblings, adult friends, whomever) who fill the parental role when no natural mom or dad are present or care to be.

So indeed happy Father's Day and blessings to all of us who have had the good fortune of having had or having been in a loving parent/son- daughter relationship! And bless the sons and daughters without whom we would not have that precious title: Dad!

the best to all of us.

Hi SS&G,, As usual, all positive sentiments.

Far too many children grow up unnecessarily without a father, which angers me to no end. If a father dies at a young age, a coach or teacher makes a poor substitute. An uncle or grandfather can supply far more influence - love and discipline - than a non-relative can. Too many biological fathers abdicate that role, and too few blood relatives step in when that happens. We are losing millions of children to the streets, to drugs, and to prison where an intact family could often provide a road to an education, to staying out of trouble and away from drugs.

As we enter an election cycle, no politician will talk about creating a culture of responsibility to yourself and to your children. The concept of being self sacrificial for our children's benefit is creating a deeper and deeper chasm between the haves and have nots. No coach, no teacher, no government aid can repair that breech.

So yes, Happy Father's Day to those dads who understand that their greatest responsibility in life is to raise their children to be good and decent people, and to provide for them in the best way you can. For those biological fathers who haven't stepped up to the plate yet, now is as good a time as any. Your kids won't know if you are poor or if you are rich, but they will know if you are present.

Great Beast and adding to you "biological fathers who haven't stepped up to the plate"...the biological mothers who have no interest in their kids...

Making a baby takes no talent; raising a baby takes heart, guts, commitment.

I've seen so many family constellations:
One man five women eight kids
One woman four men six kids
And the like.

God bless good parents
God bless and protect all kids no matter their biological roots.

We are also fortunate to have the diversion of SJU Basketball ball and a growing number of terrific recruits who can not only shoot & defend, but are responsible young men & teammates!

All the best Beast and Redmen.com friends!

Really bummed I am compelled to post this but..............again, very well said; I so much more enjoy mutually busting each others chops and name calling. Hopefully you refrain from political or societal comments in the future so things can get back to normal!!
