Happy 40th Birthday Bootsy !!!

Loved that team. Bootsy, Barkley, Artest & Postell were all guys you wanted to take the big shot with Ty Grant there to clean up any miss. I think I enjoyed watching that Elite Eight team even more than Chris' final four team.

The 98-99 and 99-00 teams are good tape to show current squad. Undersized but made up for it in large part due to being among the most impressive two-way transition teams I've ever seen.

That clip is great example - created a fast break/dunk/easy points out of next to nothing because Bootsy just ran harder than everyone else and Barkley threaded the needle right on time.

But both of those teams also really got back and defended with 5, limiting opposing transition. This kind of metric is kept more now than it was then but to the eye felt like their transition +/- was often a landslide and a difference in games. Then were tenacious, forced turnovers / took the ball off the backboard and were off to the races the other way.

If this team can approximate 70-80+% of that transition differential with a real commitment to doing it on the defensive end seems like it could be big strength of this team. Think they have the personnel to do so.

IMO, and I may be biased because this was during my time at SJU, this squad was the best every assembled for SJU, they could have won it all that year and made an impressive run.

UConn had our number that year, so it would have been tough. But I think we could have taken down Duke if the brackets were in a different position. We definitely weren't intimidated by them like nearly everyone else was that season.
