Greg Williams' Usage

Hello. Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I'm curious what others think about Williams' recent usage (or lack thereof). He's only played 2, 4, and 6, minutes in the last three games, respectively. And remember, Heron was out for the Providence game, yet Williams only saw 6 mins.

Think we'll need more from him if we are to make a BET run or win an NCAA game.

HIs lack of experience has been showing up in his play and with all these close games hard for Mullin to give him to much burn as most of our starters seem to play over 30 minutes per game.

I can't disagree with your assessment, but I still think he needs to see just a few more minutes given his talent and potential, if only to spell the starters. I worry about the wear and tear of our Starting 5 as we are heading into late February/March. Not sure they can remain as productive while playing the huge minutes they've been playing lately.

Also, thanks for replying to a "rookie"

He should have seen more minutes during the non league part of the schedule
Had he gotten more experience, he might have been better prepared to help now
He clearly has athleticism and ability but often looks lost on the court right now
When we're fighting for an NCAA berth, this isn't the time for a neophyte to get experience
He's clearly the 8th man and will play when needed due to foul trouble, etc

William's and Roberts should be getting more minutes period. Keita has Yakwe's hands and went two games without a rebound. Trimble a nice kid to have on team is better than Williams with his J. That is it.

More importantly giving frosh PT during Big East competition gives them ability to contribute in subsequent years. Instead our frosh become dissatisfied and leave .

Losing Dixon really hurt our bench

Rotations typically tighten up in February and March.

I love that Williams (and Trimble) earns his minutes with defense...that’s so good for him and the team long term.

It looks like Williams will get about 1-2 minutes twice each game with the opportunity to stay in longer and earn extra chances if he plays well. He’ll also play more against teams with an offensive weapon at guard like Howard or Powell. He hasn’t played well the last handful of games, but I’m sure he has a few gems left in him.

I like the way Williams moves on the court. Very quick. Huge upside.

It's impossible to not see Paris Horne watching him play. The scary thing is Horne didn't have any handle to connect his jumper and athletic ability, but this kid does and that makes his ceiling much higher. I think the plan for him is to turn him into a PG or at least a combo. This could be an All-Big East talent in two years. Khyri Thomas should be his example.
Agree, but if he wants to come off the bench he better work on his outside shooting
The mechanics are solid. He should improve a good deal by next year. I suspect we’ll see him in the 33-35% neighborhood.
