Greg St.Jean X & O

Seems to me he is doing an excellent job. It was not evident earlier in the season but as the team has gained experience and Mullin has handled in-game decisions better you can see the x and o strategy being executed. There have been some excellent plans for some games.

to the degree the team is successful, I hope he is..

If the Mullin experiment works out and this team is remotely successful over a series of years, this kid could turn out to be that head coach Mullin talked about turning the team over to for continuity.

To that end, he and Matt A. should be recruiting a lot together.

to me the jury is out. lets see where we end the season in stats. today was very nice but lets be honest our defense has sucked almost every other game

To me, thete is no coincidence that the team started winning ahen Mullin clearky grabbed the reigns from junior.

Closer to reality is Mullin naturally grew into a job he had NEVER done before partially because of the experience time on the job allows and partially from what he learned from people like St. Jean. Your premise that it was as simple as him grabbing the reins is silly, like building a program, becoming a head coach takes time.

If you have any questions on x and os. Every week on red storm report/YouTube there are videos of st jean teaching the St. John's managers various plays

the episode this week on closing out shooters was kind of ironic since one of our worst areas

AMAZING analysis. I had forgotten mullin had never coached before, and yes i hadnt considered that St. JeN was teaching mullin basketball. Damn. In 18 months as a coach, Mullin stayed out of the huddle and sat on the scorers table until Yoda st. Jean told chris to trust the force

As usual, utter basketball ignorance - Mullin had to learn to coach; I guess in your world knowing something is equivalent to being able to teach it or applying not in the instinctive, reactive world of playing but the entirely different environment of coaching. No learning curves for you...............just nonsense logic.

It's the old sittin' on the table thing. Beast and Maher can't seem to get over it.

No, it wasnt nonsense, it was sarcasm. Idiotic of you wasting space to point out that Mullin never coached before , and compound it by adding that he is "learning from people like St. Jean."

As i pointed out before we started winning, and after a loss, Mullin finally became assertive and acted like a coach. It was high time he took the seat in the huddle, which he now runs exclusively. You wouldnt know that, because you are watching commercials at home during timeouts.

Nah I'm over it .He hasn't had a full sit with legs dangling off the table this year. I think Mullin is doing much better job on the sidelines this year especially the 2nd half the this season. I just don't believe Mullin learned a lot about coaching from St Jean who never coached in college and also because it's Chris Mullin one of the smartest players ever.

I was very happy with the defense yesterday. If that continues the rest of the season I'll be very excited

Last year on Red Storm Report Chris said that a timeout is not enough time to draw up plays, the guys have been through it in the practice/film room/chalk board discussions. So yeah Chris is sitting down with them during time outs, but usually St. Jean is kneeling right beside him with the board and I would imagine, reminding them of some play they had previously discussed. Not to mention that the staff gathers away from the players to talk before Chris even sits down.

Pretty sure Mullin learned more about coaching from Louie and Don Nelson than he ever has from St. Jean.

I have no doubt st jean knows Xs and Os. I was there last season and Mullin's rationale for not saying much during timeouts was silly.

Assistants often run practice, so no revelation here. But you are mistepresenting St. Jeans current role in huddles. He usually now doesn't even get a chair and Mullin runs the show, as he should.

If you are at games you probably notice that mullin NOW grabs guys going in and out of the game to give them instruction or advice. All of that did not occur at all last season or earlier this season.

In game strategy has been pretty good,. Defense has been better, and they are trying to keep Yakwe and Owens out of foul trouble so we have some size on the front line.

Anyone notice how frequently lovett and ponds are picking pockets far away from the hoop?

So you're saying last year Mullin never "grabbed guys" coming out of games to give them instructions? And Ponds and Lovett's steals are because Mullin is more involved IN game? It's amazing how many "experts" we have on this board who know more, and therefore question Coach's involvement in the game or his decisions. First we had table gate, then commentary on how he dressed for the games to St. Jean being the "real coach". Now that we've had a few nice wins guys are reluctantly giving out a few attaboys. Everybody is entitled to their opinions, however flawed they may be.

Really not worth responding to

It was high time he took the seat in the huddle when HE felt he was ready, not you. What absolutely turned your world upside down, him sitting on tables etc. was actually him observing and learning, Because unlike you, he was intelligent enough and self aware enough to know and acknowledge through his actions, what he did not know and had to learn, namely managing a game. Which you arrogantly and "sarcastically" SAY you understand but your posts say you haven't a clue about. And by the way, I'm pretty sure sitting in the stands does not fix ignorant.

LOL. Better view sitting on the scorers table than sitting in his seat or standing on the sidelines ?

He is coaching more this year during games. Let's just leave it at that and be happy instead of making crazy excuses
