Grade For This Season's NBA Draft Class: D

Harkless will soon be playing in the D league

How so? Because he hasn't started lately? Hedo is back and playing. Ironically team has spiraled in that time as well.

Nov. 29: The season is just a month old, but we shouldn't be surprised if Harkless ends up being the top wing defender of this class by year's end. He's already effective for an underrated defensive team that is rebuilding its identity on that side of the floor sans Dwight Howard.
Harkless extends his long arms fully when contesting jumpers. He leaves a hand in the passing lane to the rim when helping dribble drives up the floor. And he's been sharp so far in understanding his responsibilities in the Magic's full pick-and-roll defensive schemes, sagging on the post diver before recovering quickly to his man on the perimeter. This alertness, in terms of executing their schemes and when he occasionally has to scramble and find someone to check, is not often found in young players.

Nov. 19: Harkless did what he needs to do in blowout losses -- play the right way, as if the game was on the line. He has been excellent at slashing to the rim and not floating to the perimeter to shoot, which is a weakness in most young players. But in blowouts, rookies tend to try to do too much. In this case, Harkless looked to cut to the rim or drive when he had the ball, and he made all four of his paint shots. His only miss was a weak attempt at a stepback jumper from 20 feet. For the most part, he looked to make plays inside of 15 feet on both ends of the court, and for that he is likely to be rewarded with more playing time.

Ive been watching the boxscores for the Magic and I think Harkless should have stayed one more year in college. Of course it is hard when you are thinking of all the money and your "advisor" is looking for his own benefits --

Mo Harkless is playing behind Dequan Jones an undrafted rookie from Miami. Harkless is simply not ready to be a player in the NBA. He should never have listened to Nate "which way is up" Blue, smh.

Jones is a SG. Moe is not a SG.
Again Moe played a lot because Hedo was hurt 1st game of the year. Moe has played 30 of the Magic 35 games this year. Started 20 of those. Averaging 17 mpg. I'd say he's learning a hell of a lot more in those 17 mpg in the Association than he would at STJ this year. If he was glued to the bench you argument would hold water.

Oh and by the way Jones has played in just 23 games and 8 starts averaging 11 mpg

If you look at the box scores over the past two weeks, Dequan Jones has been starting at SF and Aaron Afflalo has been the starting SG. All I stated was that Moe harkless is now playing behind Dequan Jones, which is a fact. Additionally, Moe has the talent to play in the League but is nit ready at the present time. He was pushed by Nate "which way is up" Blue so that Nate could get paid by his agent. #Facts

Did Nate run over your dog?

Ironically since Jones has been starting they have been losing like I change socks. So a player chosen 15th or so already has 20 games started under his belt but now the lineup has been shuffled due to injuries and he's not ready for the NBA? I will disagree. If he was like Thabeet and got sent to D-League in his first year then yes I'd agree he should have spent more time in college.

Moe was going to play in the nba whether it be this year or next. I would've liked to see him come back, but I can't fault him for wanting to start his career. Would he have been drafted much higher this year? Idk. Possibly, but he was a lotto pick as it was.

He has the talent AND size to play in the nba. Going pro wasn't a risk for him like it can be for others, it was just a matter of when was the right time.

And honestly, if Nate was the one advising him...then he gave Moe some pretty good advice because he was drafted 15th. He didn't tell him to enter the draft without a good sense of where he'd be picked.

Moe should have stayed based on where he was talent wise. Draft position and guaranteed money came from the belief in his potential. He probably won't be a D-leaguer but I wish he stayed in school. We and he would be better off. He would have dominated, gotten more NBA ready and drafted higher with more guaranteed money.

He went 15th. Guaranteed $4.5 million. Lot of money to put on the line. Injuries happen. Terrance Morris' happen as well. Went from projected top 5 pick in 1999 to 33rd pick in 2001. That's a lot of lost cash. If you're going to go first round take the money and run.
