“In two weeks, the N.C.A.A.’s primary legislative body, the Division I Council, will vote on a measure that could severely restrict graduate transfers. The proposed rule change would require that colleges accepting graduate transfers be docked a scholarship the next year if the transfer does not earn his secondary degree within a year.“

Another stupid NCAA rule . The NC's, Kys, Az's etc. will just give out the degrees.

Once a kid transfers just once, the current rule motivates him to finish his degree with eligibility remaining in order to give him options. Whatever rule ultimately is implemented, something has to slow this down a little.

Sounds like hoops centric thinking by the NCAA, most masters degrees take more than 2 semesters.

Again overhaul the system.

1 free transfer. Use it whenever you want. After a freshman year when you didn't play or when you are entering your 5th academic year to play 4. Use it when a coach leaves? Or when you miss your girlfriend.

No sit outs unless its mid-year.

Paging SJUFAN2 as I know he has some issues with this but they seriously need to revamp this problem.

Havent thought it through and Maybe hurts the kids options, but what about deducting a scholarship from the incoming school the following year no matter what year the student is ? No need to see about kid getting masters or not.

* One free transfer per player (out of conference). Must be used during an open window (1 month?) following any season. Eligible Next semester.
* In season Transfers sit a year. In Conference Transfers sit a year. Can't follow a HC or AC without previous schools permission.
* Eliminate Grad Transfer rule.

Once again, sheer NCAA stupidity
A D-1 football or basketball player would rarely be able to complete a Master's in 1 year

I like your suggestion.

Charlie Finley, who owned the A's in their heyday (and their dog days) suggested once free agency rolled around, that all players become free agents each season. This way once the market was flooded with free agents, market prices wouldn't be driven up by high demand for a limited supply. If all athletic scholarship were once year scholarships, just as students could move anywhere, athletes could also. Each season a team could recruit 12 new guys. PRobably would be more labor intensive, but serve a similar purpose.

Awful idea! That would cause chaos! This isn’t the pros. It takes time for a coach to build chemistry and teach kids how to play . All but the most talented kids would get lost. I realize they could elect to stay as well, but without rules governing transfers, who is going to help kids make these decisions? Parents ?

This is an absolutely atrocious idea. The NCAA claims to put the welfare of student athletes first...so now it's going to change a rule that encourages early graduation and allows kids that do graduate early to get a free year of education towards a grad degree?! How is this a bad thing if your concern is the welfare of student athletes? It seems the current grad transfer rules serve the students very well (at the expense of the institutions that want to limit the ability of their unpaid labor to move freely).
