1.Duke losing again at home & Coach K not completing handshake line to find a ref to blame.

2. A great ISU/OU game in super environment with a lot of four year players.

3. SJU going hard on recruiting trail & not dependent, like old days, on do or die situations, Lance, Whitehead, etc. Keeping lines in water for Thon & Alkins smart, but SJU will be ok if they don't get them. Ahmed, Ponds, Freudenberg & transfer or two will be solid. Rest assured Matt has transfer ideas already, though a fluid situation obviously.

4. Monte is red hot calling games, although he has not given me squat yet. :)

5. Moose has buried hatchet with Obekpa & will be his guest in not too distant future.

6. DePaul is amenable to losing to our Johnnies, providing Durand Johnson sits out.

7. Maher & Mullin broke bread & reconciled at a secret meeting at Garden City Hotel in suite w/o furniture.

we have reached a compromise. I wont criticize Mullin if he sits on the scorers table at away games but games that I attend and have to witness first hand then it's open season on anger :)

I only caught Mullin on one timeout last game, but he was loud and animated in directing his players. It's too anecdotal to think there is a wakeup, but you'd be really shocked to see who reads this board. We KNOW he didn't sit on the scorer's table and he didn't spend his entire time bitching at refs. I remain confident that he is going to turn this around into a grade A program, and in process become a competent coach I don't care who carries the clipboard, and diagrams plays, but Mullin must clearly lead this team and coach all 40 minutes. Bottom line, as Frank McGuire liked to say - "You coach and I'll get the players, and I'll beat you every time."

& Coach K not completing handshake line to find a ref to blame.

Yeah, but it's Coach K so he did it with the kind of grace and humility not often seen in all of sportsdom.

Just to see the reaction I hope he brings a newspaper to the next game

When an "amazing" happened to SJU in the 1990 NCAA tourney vs Duke and Billy Singleton received a very questionable T that turned that game around , here's how LC handled it:

''I think in a big game, in the heat of battle, sometimes you have to overlook a lot of things,'' Carnesecca said of the call. ''They're not throwing dirt in the guy's face. There has to be an understanding in an emotional situation.''

"We missed some big shots and they made some big shots," Carnesecca said. "If you want to cut up the cadaver, that's it."
"Give Duke credit for making the (free throws)," he said.

Coach Carnesecca should be nominated for sainthood after the diplomacy and restraint he displayed with those post-game comments.

Personally I still totally fume when I think about the Singleton Technical and the seemingly unending string of free throws that followed. If there ever was a game stolen from a team by the Referees, that 1990 tournament game against Duke was the one.

To this day I carry a bitter taste in my mouth because Duke got away with murder all game long. The Technical on Singleton was absurd and consistent with the bias the Blue Devils received from the Refs throughout the contest. It didn't help any to watch Duke get all the way to the finals that year, although I did enjoy them getting waxed in the finals by the Running Rebels.

Coach Carnesecca was the totally classy man here not bashing the refs, but for my take on it I will just quote Joe Jacobs , the manager of boxer Max Schmeling. Jacobs plainly said in response to the 1932 decision that went against his fighter in his bout at MSG against Jack Sharkey,

“We wuz robbed!”

That says it all!

I feel exactly the same way. It was a heavyweight fight where the outcome was pre-determined even if it took a phantom punch to get there.

my lifelong devotion to hate everything Duke was born that say when they screwed Billy and us forever
