Good Luck Ron Linfonte

Very good friend and is going to be missed by everyone. He is almost as old as I am...

PS - I hear he is going to be a sheep farmer in the Tennessee mountains. He was always fascinated by herbivores.

I know, we shared some stories about different battlefields we went to. He really knows his stuff about the Civil War.

Brandon Tierney

First met @SJU5 in November '03, my first season in the booth. Enjoyed some good scotch, cigars and conversation over the years. Great ambassador for @StJohnsBBall. Beloved by all, one of the true good guys.

Happy retirement, buddy...you earned it all! You will be MISSED

Congrats to Ron... a legend at SJU....I engaged with him extensively during my time as student working in AD and team manager in mid/late 90's and he was always so nice and helpful to me. Ran into him at a few games over the years. All the best !!

Big shoes to fill and hopefully they get a good hire in place before the season starts. Important that the team can develop a relationship with head sports med guy as there needs to be 100% trust.

His wife is from there and went to Chattanooga. Good luck to Ron and his family.

Oh my--the SJU bench will never look the same--Ron has been a fixture of the sidelines. Glad he is retiring when he can do something that he wants to. Hopefully they'll bring him back after Covid so he can get a round of applause (?and SJU-HOF recognition)

With all of the changes the program has through from multiple coaches and athletic directors, one thing has been consistent : Ron being in the sidelines. It will be weird without him and a great loss.

Terrific guy through thick and thin years for the program. I had the pleasure of seeing Ron's work while I was a student in the mid-80s and had occasion to say hello at various games over the past three decades. It will be odd to not see his face on the sidelines.

Ronnie – all the best in a richly deserved retirement!

I had the pleasure to speak to him when SJU played at Spain (summer 2013).

Terrific guy.

It isn't so much that Ron is leaving, it's that many of us saw him come and go! Thinking that before Ron, it was Dr. Glick who sat on the bench, and there was probably an overlap.

I'm wondering if the cancellation of the fall sports season played into his decision to retire now. He was responsible for 17 teams. Wishing him good health and a long and happy retirement.

Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky.

Great guy who will be missed. They have a place down there and he spent time there during the pandemic. Got to chat with him last month as he was preparing to sell his house and was giving away some of his St. John’s and other sports memorabilia. A terrific guy who is highly regarded in his profession. I wish him well.

Lou Delcolla was the full time trainer before Ron with Drew Dillion filling in during the interim for a few months until Ron started. Doc Gimmler I believe was Lou’s predecessor.

He was involved with the players testing and physicals when they returned to campus and the cancellations of the fall sports could have spread up his retirement and his house might have sold quicker than he imagined.

I believe Ron started at SJU around the same time (1980) I started at Chemical Bank. I retired from JP Morgan in July and now it's Ron's turn. Good luck to him, always chatted when we saw each other.

Thanks for the correction. I had forgotten about Lou Delcolla, and I never knew Doc Gimmler was the trainer. I knew he was a very good golf coach. He was a great guy and when I was a student he was involved in allocating gym time to the fraternity basketball league. He was always warm and respectful, and we all liked him a lot.

Doc Gimmler was our trainer when I played at St.John's. After I threw my arm out in my junior year Doc had me stick it in a jacuzzi - didn't help. Always bumped into him at Belmont race track One of the nicest guys.
