Yeah, he did look good. But, for me, unless he becomes an all-pro, that was a poor pick.

Of course, Gettleman is the smartest guy in the room......just ask him.

So if Jones isn't one of the best 2 or 3 Qbs in a season the pick will be poor? Even if he plays 10-15 years for the Giants? You know who else doesn't have an all pro selection? Eli.

You're right.....I should have said pro-bowl (not all-pro). Still, if we loved Daniel Jones, he was going to be their in the 2nd round. I would have preferred if we took Devin Bush (watch him this year).

Disclaimer, I am also completely off-put by Gettleman's smug demeanor. Not my type of guy.

While it's nice to be optimistic, you can't judge anything from last night's game. Both the offense and defense were plain "vanilla". and Jones was playing against a second team defense. His performance was encouraging but I wouldn't call him a savior just yet.

If Eli and the Giants get off to a bad start when the lights go on, fans will be clamoring for Jones to play. The second string QB is always the most popular guy on the team when the starter isn't cutting the mustard.

I'm an old school guy. I still think it's preferable to have a rookie hold the clip board for a year to get a feel for the NFL game. It sure didn't hurt Mahomes one single bit.

Pre Season I like to look at the young guys to see who might stand out or have potential. I really like this Ballentine kid. He impressed me last night. The Carlock kid has a motor. Oh man that guy flew down the field after the interception. Also on offense I thought that kid Reggie White Jr had a real good game

I'm not a Giants fan but Jones wasn't going to be available with the Giants 2nd 1st round pick, let alone in the 2nd round. Phil Sims has said publicly that he knows of two teams that have told him since the draft that they would have taken him before the Giants pick at #17. I think one of them is Miami. I'd heard that rumor from Dolphin reporters after the draft as well.

Gettlemen is certainly an odd duck and his own worst enemy as GM, but every GM has to eventually hitch his career to a young 1st round QB. I give him credit for having the courage of his convictions and not trying to work the system to appease fans or draft "pundits". If you believe a guys is a franchise QB, then he's worth your top pick, and if you really want to make sure you get him you trade up. Time will tell if he's right in his assessment of Jones, but he looked like he was on the mark last night.

Aaron Rodgers benefited sitting 3 or 4 years behind Favre. That being said, your first sentence is spot on. Pre-season football is fool’s gold. No problem with being optimistic but their is zero game planning for these game. Everything is vanilla. Then take a look at the DNP lists. Multitude of the real teams players are not playing. Why risk injury? It’s a joke.
These games are a place for seeing young players but primarily a money grab by the NFL. I can’t believe they get away with charging season ticket holders for TWO of them. (Plus two road games)

The biggest problem I see this year is receiver's hopefully we have some better luck moving forward.

Maybe his smug demeanor is a product of know it all local reporters smugly questioning all of his moves. Of course i agree you can't judge much from one drive in a first exhibition game on the field with many back ups but he certainly looked the part. Made 5 for 5 very nice throws to WRs that may or may not be NFL starting caliber players. Reports are that he has looked good in camp and while it is far too early for any definitive opinions you have to like what you have seen so far however I do remember Browning Nagle who threw for like 400 yards a multiple TDs in his first regular season game and then immediately flamed out (does a Jet bust even count LOL).

Agree. I also like the linebacker out of Wisconsin (Ryan Connelly?).
Only one question remains after last night: Who inducts Jones into Canton?
Parcells not willing to anoint him just yet but when the time comes got to be Gettleman.
