Gear

Like many other commentors I've noticed for awhile how hard a time it is to find quality SJU gear; so I wanted to share an experience I had this week. My father is a longtime alum and doesn't own an article of clothing with anything "storm" on it(only fading indian headresses!), so for his birthday next week I felt he would enjoy some modern apparel to show his pride during the coming seasons - and it's true that finding things in the sporting good stores in the area, or even online is quite difficult. So I took a short trek to campus, and wanted to let the non-students on the board know that the bookstore now has a WIDE array of really high quality sweatshirts, hats, jerseys and shorts in stock now. And not the cr$p that they show on the bookstore's website. And I know last season posters mentioned the bookstore ran out of items by early February. That is not the case right now.. they are stocked full. For example I picked up a thick red and black sweater with the STJ logo on it for my father, and a found a nike dry-fit (under armour style) shirt for myself. But there were many many other items to choose from.

I know my personal shopping experience may not be that interesting to everyone; but for quite awhile finding nice gear has been a topic of conversation - so I thought I'd let it be known that the school must have stocked up for the new school year because there was a really extensive array of merchandise I hadn't seen before. Hopefully it makes its way online and into Dicks, Modells etc eventually.

Do they have fitted hats, and if so, what size? I have a small head, and no one seems to have fitted hats that are either small or  less than size 7.

What jersey are they selling? The leftover #1 jerseys? Who was wearing 1 this year again? He will have some fans in the stands.

Folks always seem to be looking for gear. Saw this on a site I frequent:

Finishline offers 2x NCAA Fleece Hoodies for $30 when you enter coupon code SAVEME20 at checkout. Must add two to cart. Shipping is free

They have two different STJ models.

Hopefully this link works:

Well it kind of worked so you can add one of each of the fleece hoodies and put in the code to get 'em for $30. YMMV

Thanks! They were sold out of the red one in L and XL, so I went with the grey one. Great deal. Got an SJU one and an ND one as well. Can't really beat two quality sweatshirts for 30 bucks.

I can't comment on size, but they definitely had a much larger selection of fitted hats compared to last year.

I don't recall what sizes where available either. personally I got the stretch fit one size fits all red one. But there was a large selection of both red and black flat-billed, and also "classic/washed" look availble.

thanks for the tip 1&1. i'm going to go in there this week. i have to see this with my own eyes, i can't believe it. they have been selling things with dust on them for much of the past decade. i dont want to see horses or thundbirds or whatever. stay classy st johns. thanks again.

This March i took a trip back to NYC to visit family while in Manhattan I went to three stores Modells, Champs and one other store to stock up on SJU gear. I found one hat. ONE HAT ! not a jersey, no shirts. Nothing. Even on sites like lids.com they have four maybe five SJU caps while other big east schools have twenty. why is that?

Does the school have a say in what is marketed and what merchandise is sold where? I have friends in Texas that went to UT and they just laugh at me trying to look for stuff online. You go to a store here and any Texas school has whole sections of store dedicated to sports gear.

Just got an email from www.footballfanatics.com. They seem to have some nice St. John's gear. The items I like are the "We are St. John's" shirts.

Does anyone know where I can get the Nike SJ basketball T that D'Angelo was wearing during his interview w/ All-Access? I like that one much better than what's on the various sites.

Prepsportswear.com is a great site. They are a bit expensive, but good quality. Can take over a week to get it to you because everything is custom made when you order it. You can pick your combinations of logos, designs, and colors.

Also check www.originalretrobrand.com for a nice looking St. John's T-Shirt

Retro Brand is a great manufacturer. Sizes run small but great material and top quality graphics. I've used them many times before.
