Gary Sanchez

Does anyone think Gary Sanchez should be catching for the Yankees? Sure he hits an occasional home run, but his horrible defense far outweighs his offense. He could have been charged with four passed balls in the first inning last night. As it was he was charged with two and two were called wild pitches. Also, he is such a slow runner that there is an excellent chance he will hit into a double play if there is a runner on base. Unless he can learn to block pitches in the dirt (which is what is now required of any competent catcher) I do not believe he has a future with the Yankees. How about a Sanchez for deGrom trade?

I thought the Yankees would sign Matt Harvey in the offseason like all their fans said they would in 2015. Now they all seem interested in DeGrom. :)

He reminds me of a Edgar Martinez. He should be dh/first base. He is terrible as a catcher. He has an amazing arm, however his glove work is horrendous behind the plate. I think his bad catching is affecting his hitting. He's a legit .300 plus 30 plus homer guy. Every day he should be practicing at first base in my opinion cuz that's where I think he'd be best. Aside from DH.

I believe Sanchez is the worst defensive catcher I've seen in my many years of watching major league baseball. He has shown absolutely no improvement and in my opinion is not going to be the long term catcher for the Yanks. Now that he is not even hitting, he should be benched and consideration given to not putting him on the postseason roster. Romine is clearly a better short term option.

I really think Yanks should give Sanchez another game or two to show some life at the plate and if he doesn't hit switch to Romine for the rest of the year. At least he won't kill them defensively and now that other hitters are back they don't need his bat as much.
