Garden Ticket prices for SJU games

NY Post writer called SJU fans to task for poor attendance this past year at garden games. A fair point; however, it seems ridiculous that the "all in" lowest price for a ticket to the majority of SJU games at the Garden was $50. That an a few 9pm starts don't help. What analytics maven at MSG has concluded that its more beneficial to let a ticket go unsold than to add a $20-$30 tier price? With some of the crowds this year, program may be better served trading some games back at Carnesecca Arena. At least there's a home court advantage. Remember, even in the glory days of the early/mid eighties, everyone but Georgetown (and later Syracuse) came to Queens. Not sure how much it impresses recruits to comeinto the Garden when its less than half full.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there was no 20/30 price tier since the 400 sections weren't opened up for most games?

There are plenty of people in NYC who will gladly pay $50 to see a winning team play well-organized D1 college ball. But $50 to see a 0-5 team play street ball? Not happening.

Being a college team in a pro sports town requires a lot of creative thinking in pushing their product. The coach does his part but the people running the ticket sales appear to send out the season ticket applications in Sept. and close up shop.

Well some would argue they're picking up their tickets for the play-in game. ;)

Word! Last year I hit my first SJU game in a while at the Garden (had seen 'em at Fordham prior to that), and was blown away at the $75 ticket price for a seat in the 100 sections, behind one of the benches. Good seats yes, but I also remember getting seats like that for 1/3 of that not even a full decade ago, and in the 90s, sat behind the baskets within a half dozen rows for $20 at holiday festivals every year.

Sorry, but $75 that's a bit much for a COLLEGE basketball game, no? Do they have any group discounts worth the time--for say a high school coach to bring his team, or something to that effect?

Sidebar: I only paid $15 for those $75 seats. I was lucky that the ticket lady asked if I had my student ID (pushing 40, I felt it was a compliment!). I told her that I had my ID for the school I work for and she accepted that. Something to keep in mind for those lookin' for an easy in? Wasn't no St. John's ID either, it was a city high school ID for staff.

Is this on St. John's? Or is this more about MSG and its new yuppified ways/look and desire to recoup their expenses to further push away blue collars?

And this is important in this regard...almost none of my hoop junkie friends will pay that price to see a college game, period, end of story. But if say, $40 for a 300 level or something were available, maybe I can drag along some folks?

I respectfully disagree that "in the hey day" of St. Johns (Mullin, Berry, Jackson, Seeley, Artest, Hardy, I guess)-- only Syracuse and Georgetown sold well.

When SJU is really good, the Garden gets pretty crowded for all of our games.

I have been there for very nice crowds for Duke, ND, Pitt, Uconn and even WVa games, we just have to get a sustained level of success and the crowds pick up.

The Garden and St. john's should be offering cheap seat sin the 400s, and provide enough security so people don't sneak down. That would prevent those who would spend more for a decent seat from simply buying the cheap ones I don't care, but for St John's they would know they aren't hurting sales of better seats by offering cheaper seats.

Then again, I am guessing they have solid data showing that when the upper levels were open for cheap seats, no one was buying them to justify the added security ushers and concessions.

Well, technically Chris Mack paid for the entire studen allotment. I don't think any comps are allowed for the NCAA tournament, even for students

Wasn't Mack bottom 3 in the Big East as far as salaries go?

Man, you just gotta love some coaches.

From the BE media day last year to now, Mack has done nothing but impress me. Great representative for the conference.

Like I said, Mack is first class.

“To put it into perspective, seven days ago I got a knock on my door from a neighbor,”€ Mack told reporters earlier this week. ”€œHe said my wife was in an auto accident. It was an eighth of a mile from my house. I got to the scene. The car went to the other side of the double-yellow, hit my wife head-on. A drunk driver. Blew a .25 with my kids in the car.”

Mack’s wife broke two bones in her left arm, while his daughters had minor injuries, according to WCPO. A post on Facebook updated their conditions and his family seems to be in good spirits about the scary ordeal.

“I’m as excited as it gets to be in the NCAA tournament,” Mack added. And, ahhh, whew … that was really, really hard.”
