Great day for hoops at MSG. My courtside seats from the PSAL provided a glimpse of a future star both at St. John's and at MSG. Shamorie was spectacular. My old friend who is the PSAL commissioner Donald Douglas, raves about Shamorie (Don is in the bow tie with Deputy Chancellor Rose in the attached picture). We need atalented big to compliment Shamorie and I have no doubt we will do some damage next year.
The entire ST. John's staff was there. Yes, even Slice who was scouting possible guards for Rutgers. He apologized for not being able to get commitments from Alkins and Maker or anyone for that matter. He also apologized for Durand Johnson. He holds no grudge against Mullin for sending Matt on European recruiting trips while sending him on impossible missions to recruit 5* players. He was going to wait until the basketball season was over to announce his resignation and assist John Calipari with building Rutgers into a national power but some washer woman on Johnny Jungle spilled the beans and so he will continue to attend high school games and recruit while being paid by SJU but Mullin is OK with him stealing players for Rutgers because that's what friends do.
In the Big East Championship Seton Hall was sensational in beating Villanova with the New York City players Lavin deemed not a good fit for his style at St. John's. I read somewhere where Lavin intimated Whitehead did not sign with St. John's because Isaiah knew Lavin was being fired to hire Chris Mullin. Lavin may have forgotten Whitehead was a 2014 recruit and he wasn't fired until 2015. Then again Lavin never tried to recruit anyone locally too hard so we forgive him his memory lapse. He does envy Matt for his trips to Europe however since the future of St. John's recruiting is in Europe since he thinks European kids never heard how putrid St. John's basketball has been and don't roll on the floor laughing like 5* American kids do (see reaction of Alkins who never heard of Slice).
I would start a rumor that Tom Pecora may replace Slice but then I would be responsible for the suicide Maven would commit live on Twitter.
Now, coming soon.......a major commitment. ....just not one that Slice recruited.
