FYI Re: Frank Darby

I guess Manhattan thinks that Darby's termination at St John's was nothing to be worried about. He has so many connections. Met him at a Met PGA Pro-Am twenty + years ago by my pro, St John's grad, Joe Felder. He was the one to tell me about Redmen.com. and we talked hoops for 15 minutes or so. Nice guy.

I think he is an active member here, and some here (besides me) may have an idea of who he is.

Good luck to him. He lands at another local D1 school, and hope he has the same kind of success he had here in helping to develop some great golfers.

I'm going to handicap those odds at 22057 :)

Odd situation, this. He was Coach of the Year for 2014 in this district, produced a BE championship and runner up trophy in the last few years, and, was let go a week or two before Christmas 2014 after 20 years at StJ by a guy who was let go a couple of months later.
Darby was one of the most benevolent, well liked, successful, and out going coaches at StJ. He lived and breathed St. Johns and, working for a city school with weather limitations, was still able to regularly produce and develop wonderful recruits and deliver consistent championships..
We spent some time together at a BE Championship tourney in Florida. After one meeting he had a way of making you feel you were the most important person around the golf course. He went out of his way to call Keegan over to introduce me. I didn't ask, He just did it.
Good Guy! I wish him all the happiness and success in the world with the Jaspers. I will root for them now along w/ SiJ.

I knew Frank while attending SJ along w/ most of the golf team...he is a good guy...dont know the circumstances that resulted in him being fired but I am sure he treasured the opportunity at SJ
