FWIW: Interesting Story About Providence AD

An AD & his coaches working hand in glove to achieve a common purpose. Refreshing & a missing link at SJU imo. Continuity is such a plus. Can SJU ever achieve that? Jury out. It’s been a long time. Next hire & empowerment of the position is extremely important.

Goff's position was emasculated. No career minded and competent AD would apply. We are St. John's ------- where coaches and AD's go to die.

Ah, we’re on the cusp of a new season with the best roster in years and ‘perhaps’ a needed AC change. An AD with ‘teeth’ working in sync with coaches is indeed the ‘next step’.

Great article! Someone should send it to the powers that be at SJU. PC is a small Catholic school of just over 4,000 students w/o a great location to sell. As Paultz says, shows what a great AD can do given time and power to get things done. Cooley was a great hire and it sounds like the hockey coach was as well.

Are you family with the expression It would fall on deaf ears? If they have to be told it is a lost cause (another all too familiar expression closely associated with St. John's).

Simply hiring good coach(es) after Louie would've done the trick.
Instead, one bad move after another---from Brian Mahoney through Norm Roberts. (Fraschilla was a good coach but a wacky one.

Yes bamafan, I am familiar with those expressions, but as a life long Johnnie & Knick fan, I am quite familiar and comfortable with tilting at windmills!

One major difference is that Cooley is a Providence native and always said that this was his destination job. We haven’t had a competent coach with similar intent since Looie. It’s hard to build a sustainable program when you have a revolving door of head coaches. Good programs have continuity in the coaching ranks.
