Freudenberg on List of Impact Foreign Players

I think we have to be patient with this kid, but, with added strength & experience, next year he will be a difference maker IMO.

Agree Paultz, and think with right amount of patience we will be happy with his contributions this year. Does too many things naturally well to outshine areas for improvement. I think he's a little scrappy too which helps!

Area that I am really excited for him is in secondary transition. Has been a while since we had a big (by height, not position) that could both stick the basketball from 3 and play on the slash (Harkless was coming into that as his freshman year developed). With Lovett, Ponds, and Ahmed I'm anticipating we are going to be putting a lot of pressure on defenses on the primary break. A versatile trailer can feast in that situation before defenses set. Think RF on the floor with those 3 and Yawke (running rim to rim) will be an interesting combo for stretches come Jan/Feb. Hard to guard!

Record aside, I think we will be the fastest team in the big east this year. Every player likes to get out and run and we now have two of the quickest guards in the league.

Considering that strength is an issue for RF, it sounds like he made a good decision to come to St. John's over signing a German pro deal. I can only imagine that the German pro league is full of physical players. Good for us and him. Let's get him in the gym and hopefully he can mature physically at SJU over the next 3 or maybe 4 years.

Tidbit from Jon Givony;
Also interesting: The number of foreign players on NCAA rosters has increased more than 40% compared to 2006-07. Now 11% of all players.

Be thankful Matt does homework with these kids well in advance v scrambling to fill voids at last minute. He has one excellent kid on his radar already & I am sure some others.

Love the Euro-juco-transfer route to supplement traditional kids. Especially with a Metropolitan School like SJU which I think could be quite appealing to kids overseas
