Frank Martin suspended by school..

Is the following cursing ok if I quote the CBS site? LOL!
Martin was caught on camera during Tuesday's loss to Florida cussing at freshman guard Duane Notice -- apparently yelling "Answer the f-cking question, a--hole!"

Martin is a psycho on the sidelines. Needs to get to John Lucas rehab center for a lot of
treatment !!

Refusing to answer a fucking question could in fact make the kid an asshole. I just don't care enough to follow up on the story.

I remember back in the Jarvis days, we had a promising forward whose last name I'm not sure of (King maybe?) who was in Jarvis' doghouse. My seats were right behind the SJU bench then, and on one of Jarvis' half court offense plays, King took a baseline shot from about 10-12 feet off the dribble, and missed. Apparently that wasn't the set play, and Jarvis immediately yanked him. Jarvis then ignored the game, and instead got right in King's face and kept taunting him, saying over and over, "Why'd you shoot? Why'd you shoot". To me it appeared that he was trying to get King to snap, and I wouldn't have blamed the kid for going after Jarvis. To me that was pretty damned offensive.

A couple of years ago when we blew out Lousiville on the anniversary of the final 4 year, I sat near Pitino's bench, and listened to profanity filled tirades at his players. In that context of what was happening on the court, I wasn't too offended by Pitino, although I was surprised.

I'm sure Martin has a history. Out of context, cursing at a kid isn't a reason by itself to suspend a coach.

I laughed. Well played.

FWIW if he had stopped at "Answer the fu-king question" there's no foul. I'm sure calling the kid an a$$hole is the proverbial straw. At that point, even if you don't mean to, you're getting personal.

Agreed.

I'm all for tough love, but what exactly is the point of cursing out a kid on the sideline? Trust me, I understand emotions can sometimes get the best of people. But to me, if your players are afraid of you then you aren't really that good of a coach.

If memory serves me correctly, he was the youngest of the King brothers. Had some talent but, as noted above, was abused (and misused) by Jarvis

If you are referring to Eric King, I don't believe he is related to Bernard and Albert.

You're right...what was I thinking...next you'll tell me that Ed Norton (actor) is not a Ed Norton (Honeymooner's) son

+1.
It's calling the kid a _____, that makes it unprofessional and inappropriate.
It may seem like semantics, but it's not.

" what the f are you doing?" Is very different than "what the f are you doing, you ___ "

As horrible as the comment is out of context, and it is horrible, any coach should be evaluated based on the body of his work. If that's typical of how he speaks to and treats his players, that's a reason for suspension and dismissal. If it was simply an isolated case in exasperation and anger, it's a lesser offense. I think the tone of it matters also. If it's in the huddle, and he says to a player he respects and gets along with, "Hey..A-hole, what the F was that?" then its just street talk, and not necessarily offensive.

We do live in a time where the contradictions are startling. We had a debate on here a couple of years ago about the student section chanting "A-hole" at opposing players or referees. Some thought it was acceptable, others not. Now a coach call his player an a-hole, and its a reason for suspension.

Not a day goes by here when someone doesn't call another poster "an idiot", "not too bright" or any other number degrading names, all because of the content of their post. I don't mind spirited dialogue, but in general, this board spirals down, especially after losses. It's unfortunate.
