Francesa / 14 Years later

Reminds me of The Office episode where Michael Scott vows to make a Scott's Tots scholarship promising to pay for their college if they get accepted. All students end up getting accepted and he realizes he can't pay for it and has to break it to them not realizing what he got himself into. Only difference is Francesa can actually fund this easily. What a jack*ss.

Following the awards presentation, master of ceremonies Mike Francesa, of WFAN sports radio fame, spoke of a contribution he plans on making to the University. Francesa announced the formation of the Francesa Scholarship Fund, created in honor of his mother Marilyn, who passed away in April.

His love of the University also played a great role in his decision to create the scholarship fund.

“[Other schools] deal in theory, we deal in reality,” Francesa said of the University.

He also spoke of the importance of giving students a chance to receive a good education, one which St. John’s can provide. He made reference to the President’s Society as a show of what is possible with an education from St. John’s.

“Look over at these guys who are all honor students,” Francesa said. “If they’re not the future and they don’t make you proud, I don’t know what will.”

Francesa is committed to funding the effort in order to benefit St. John’s students in need and said he will fund the scholarship for the remainder of his life.

During the interview with Repole, Francesa said "I have my own problems with the school." I guess SJU expecting him to follow up on his public commitment is one of them.

Saw a clip of his show today posted on Twitter where he was accused of committing an indiscretion.

I heard from someone that he got all mad when many months after his big announcement someone from the school followed up with him about it; that he got so pissy with the school following up, he decided not to do it.

Definitely a blowhard and egomaniac, but disgrace may be a bit harsh.

I think that word would better apply to the recent and former captain of the lacrosse team.
