FOX/Big East Coverage

I have enjoyed the FOX/Big East partnership this year. I think it is doing a good job putting the Big East out there. I really like the Saturday afternoon games especially the January/February time frame when the weather blows. Seems like we are back to our roots from the 80's. Just wondering what everyone thought about the coverage and exposure for the conference?

For the most part I have liked how they have covered the BIG EAST. I am a tad disappointed because I thought Bill Rafferty and Gus Johnson were going to be the voice of the BIG EAST. Other than that, I think they have been OK, the exposure is certainly a plus for the conference. Today, they were very complimentary to the coaching job Lavin is doing. They closed into one of our timeouts, listening to Lavin, as the group broke they said now that is a good coach asking the kids if they had any questions after giving them their instructions.

raft's contract only allows him to do games on FS1 not Fox

I like their coverage. It was nice to not have announcers that root against us. Good listen.

I've quickly become a big Donny Marshall fan. He sings our praises, as well as the Big East.

Plan to watch the replay tomorrow. Fox has put our games on its standard stations which reach millions more because you do not need to be a cable subscriber to view and those that have cable without premium have access. Every single television viewer in the NY metro area was able to view the game regardless of cable provider.

This is a big deal. One of the criticisms of being on FS1 vs ESPN is ESPN gets better ratings. Having games on national Fox is huge.

What's with Marshall and Jackson talking through half the national anthem?

I was watching with my wife at the time and we both thought they looked completely uncomfortable with the situation. I believe at some point they stopped talking. My guess is it was poor timing and poor job by the producer or whoever is directing the game.

Last week I was at my place in Florida and watched the Xavier game and Georgetown games on Fox via Directv. Great to see us and the conference get the coverage it deserves.

Yeah they started talking and then the clock hit 0 and everyone lined up and the PA guy started saying the "anthem will be performed by the pep band directed by" and at that point the tv director was wildly swinging her arms to stop the announcement. As everyone was already lined up and the crowd was standing the band started playing and FOX cant cut to an anthem playing so they kept talking.

I saw that too. That is exactly what happened.

It was nationally televised no matter the TV provider yesterday. I have cable out here in Montana and it was on the local Fox station. My friend in Los Angeles was also watching it on their local Fox station. I agree it is awesome having this national exposure on regular TV.

I think ESPN was synonymous w/ the league for a long time - it sucks not being on "Big Monday" any more, but as more ESPNs were added and they began doing more games, i feel like a lot of the games they televised feature their "B list" and "C list" announcers who are complete hacks, just like the anchors on sportscenter.

The things that suck about not being on the World Wide Leader any more is no more coverage in the studio for the league. They show highlights now, but they never breakdown the league, or discuss it. The other thing is the Tournament was hands down the best tournament in college basketball and it wasnt even close. I think ESPN had a big part in that - they had their best annoucing team in NYC for the tournament and the games were featured on the network all week - to me that was tremendous exposure for our league. The jury is still out on Fox.....

Leaving ESPN aside, i miss not being on CBS. We always had big games (Duke, GTown, UConn) on CBS and to me CBS has the best coverage of sports whether its NFL, college bball, golf- no one does it better than CBS....and when our games were on CBS they were always a national broadcast; not like if it was on ESPNU or ESPN3.....and again, we had great exposure on CBS.

The Fox announcers are ok. Raftery and Johnson are good. I like Tarik Turner.

Austin Croshere is an utter disaster (did you hear his comments on Frank Kaminsky - he can shoot, he can rebound and he can pass...and he's white! whats not to love).

Donny Marshall is terrible too. Maybe because i was never a fan as a player and i wish Charles Minlend would have knocked him out cold that day they came to punches with each other, but he doesn't sound good calling the games.

Hopefully Fox can secure a deal with the Big 10, as was rumored and that will help with exposure, because it still needs to get better IMO.

I'm a fan of the fox sports partnership aside from one aspect. Their app fox sports go does not have an alliance with Verizon fios. So can't watch on my iPad when I'm away.
