For all the doom and gloom around here...

We're a missed bucket vs. Rutgers and a lapse in sensible play at Villanova from being 4-1 in Big East play.

Are we a (gigantic) work in progress? Are going to make the Tournament this season? Yes to the first question and no to the second. One thing that has cracked me up the last month and a half are the incredible highs and ridiculous lows a lot of the posters on this board have. It's a free country, and people are most certainly entitled to their opinions, but to proclaim our coach or some of our players as warriors one game and then completely crap on them the next game is beyond ridiculous.

I don't usually start threads on this board because I am far from an "in-the-know" poster and am just a Johnnie fan since I was 8 and I like to participate in the game threads because I'm married now with a kid and this is the best way for me to BS with other fans unlike the good ole days when I watched in the bars with my friends and got to go to some MSG games.

Some of you have to learn to say "eff it" after you've written something and just copy and erase. I'm talking about the good and bad. Please (Please!!) stop saying games are winnable or definite losses because to predict anything in this league is about as useless as peeing into a breeze.

Let's enjoy this nice win, hope we can build upon it and hopefully we can out of this season with at least an NIT bid.

And before one of you jokers bump this thread if we lose a couple in a row, or have another stinker ala the Hoya game, I am not a sunshiner, I'm a realist and I'm just hoping we can finish at or above the .500 mark THIS season.

I know what you're saying but it's the law of averages. You could also say we're a desperation 3 by Dangelo, and an improbable block by him, from being 0-5.

But otherwise I agree with most of what you said. Nice post. And a good night for celebrating.

Thanks. I'm not writing any manifestos or calling anyone out. Just pointing out the highs and lows around here make me queasy before I even click on a thread and, lately, discourage me from posting.

But, haha...hell yea. Feeling pretty good tonight beating the Irish.

Don't know about anyone else but it seemed liked the Garden had that "old buzz" back tonight, especially in the 2nd half. To all those who stayed home or have given up on the season already (you know who you are), do us all a favor, stay home the rest of the season. Tonight was much more fun without you.

I too have been amazed, and discouraged, by the emotional swings on this board. I rarely post, but I frequently read. But I must say, reading this board recently can be as much of a beating as some of our bad losses. We have a very young team and young teams can make you crazy. Gtown and UNCA in particular were made me want to scream. But when I think back to where we were before Coach Lavin arrived...

The next 4 games will define where this team will go. Last nights victory showed we are capable of beating some quality teams(especially when playing man to man defense!). While inconsistency has marred the season, mostly due to free throws, we still have a chance to salvage a nice season. There is no better time to do so than the next 2 weeks.

4 games in that span, all of which are very winnable. 2 games against DePaul, 1 vs Rutgers, 1 vs Seton Hall. In order to make up for some unsavory losses from 2012 like UNCA, we need to be opportunistic here. A 4-0 stretch would put us at 14-7 (6-3). To me that flips the entire season on its head.

On paper we are better than all 4 of our foes, and can really make a statement by getting one back from Rutgers. Here's to hoping the team finds a consistent run of form in them and starts climbing the BE ladder.

We will get better in fits and starts even without Sanchez. We will get much much better and even dangerous with him.

Sanchez is fast becoming a mythecal figure like Keyser Soze. No one has actually seen him play and he will never play for us but his reputation is increasing by leaps and bounds. By the time our granchildren are posting on these sites they will be convinced that Sanchez was the greatest player in the history of the program despite never actually playing.

I'd like to see a life-size bronze statue of him in front of CA.

On another positive note, the Bleacher Report has both CObepka and JSampson listed today in its list of top 20 frosh. Nice.

People have seen him play he supposed to be quite good. That said, Ill keep checking this thread but I am not optimistic. The myth is that he might become eligible.

He's the second coming of "The Goat". I'd call him "The Llama" but I think we all know that Pau Gasol is "The Llama". Let's call him "The Alpaca".

Has Lavin ever explained his reason for redshirting GG? And, at this point in the season, is Sanchez going to be able to contribute meaningful numbers? That decision , in retrospect, seems poorly conceived. Was GG injured or other issues?

While, apparently his rep is that he can play, he hasn't played competitive BB in over 10 months.. IS he in game shape, up to speed with team strategies?

Honestly,

I think if you want to see a finished product, go to an art museum. Stay out of art class if you don't want to see some works in progress.

Become a fan of a professional team. If you feel you love college bball, root for a program that is running on all cylinders right now and can reload very quickly, like a Duke or Kentucky or Kansas. Even among the elite, North Carolina, Indiana, UCLA, and others have had their dog days.

Except on the worst nights (see Rutgers, Gtown games), I have a high tolerance for finding good things to see and things to cheer about. I fully understand the dialogue regarding the direction this program is heading, but given where we were and where we are now, I'll take the where we are now any day.

Where we were since 1999-2000 season to be more precise.

I kind of enjoy the back and forth these days. After the Georgetown game I knew who would be posting and after last night's game I had a good idea as well. I have confidence in the program's direction, but I know how maddening college basketball can be. I'm a St. John's and Indiana University alum, both teams played back to back Saturday and Tuesday, and you cannot believe the shift in emotions and viewpoints going forward of both fan bases ...oh wait, yes we can, because we're talking about college basketball!

My completely out-of-the-know explanation for why GG is redshirted: He's not very good at the game of basketball and wouldn't have played this year. And the offense runs better when everyone can handle the ball.

It is not a coincidence that the best game we played this year was when we started a small lineup. And remember, this also happened to be against the best post player we've seen yet - and still coach played a small lineup, and it was successful.

The reverse action offense, or weave, or whatever you want to call it...requires everyone on the floor to be able to handle the ball. It's much more effective when our"big" on the floor is Garrett or Sampson. We all have a lot more confidence with them at the top of the key handling the rock than we do when it's Obekpa in that situation.

Lavin's system simply runs better without a big man. There's a reason when even on a team of all freshmen, Dunlap/Lavin had Gift coming off the bench. He's not good, and our system may be better without a real center anyway.

And if you enjoy sports where there are participation awards, you can follow cyo intramurals.

Being frustrated when your team plays poorly is an inherent part of fandom. Get over it. And stop setting up a false dichotomy. You can enjoy the team and its successes and still voice criticism of poor decisions you perceive.

I said the same thing after the Cincy game, with RU, G-Town, and ND coming this could be when we turn the corner, and we lose to RU and G-Town so I won`t go there this time.
I want to see what we do at DePaul (why can`t we beat DePaul? What because we`re young? I say BS to that crap, no excuses just go to DePaul and play the same as last night, it shouldn`t be that hard to do), then go to the RAC and win there. They beat us in our house so lets return the favor.
That`s what pisses me off, just because they`re young they can`t play the same way as they did @ cincy and last night vs. ND? Nah I`m not hearing that. That`s just an excuse to play like garbage in some games.

Hey grow up and become big boys, and want it and bring it hard every game, the time for excuses is over plain and simple. I`m sick and tired of hearing oh next year, next year, next year it gets old. Lets f`ing do something this year and forget next year. Excuse my language but I`m just fed up with hearing about next year
ok I`m done with my rant lol

SJUISBACK are you really Joe3 in disguise ; )

Losing is always frustrating but playing hard and wanting it don't always guarantee wins, like Lou Carnesecca once said, "the other guys are trying too"
