Florida Whacked Again

This was my first hurricane. Our condo is on North Hutchinson Island which is where the hurricane is said to have hit shore. Fortunately the condo and our section of the beach experienced little or no damage.

.The hurricane experience reminded me of a big New York snow storm …. the day before everyone rushes to the grocery store, returns home and hunkers down for the storm to pass. The major difference with the hiricame however is that you cannot look outside during the hurricane because the hurricane shooters are closed over the windows.

If you are going to live ip north you must contend with icy roads and snow. If you are going to live in Florida you must contend with hurricanes.

Happy to hear there was no damage to your property.

Unfortunately for those coastal residents of Daytona, things were not as Sunny. With a mix of houses, condos constructed prior to adequate coastal construct guidelines, and a prior hit of Ian, some residents found their properties floating out to sea. Complete devastation with no chance of a rebuild for some.

Having lived through 5 hurricanes since 2012, the key to Florida living is HURRICANE SHUTTERS and A Generac or Kholer Generator. Feeling very secure staying put.

Only thing I remember is going out riding my bike with friends, and my dad freaking the F out on me for doing it.
I was a bit older. Was my last day at a job and my goodbye was muted at best as everyone started going home around 10am. Went out for Chinese food on 8th ave for lunch and vividly remember watching a Key Foods shopping cart getting blown down the street at like 20mph. Oh the carnage.

That rules out my guess of your job being at a chinese restaurant :)

The ravages of age. I was living in Flushing in 1985 and working in Manhattan and while I have vivid memories of Floyd, Irene & Sandy I have absolutely no recollection of Gloria. I guess it's only a matter of time before I don't remember the others...

That's probably because it ended up being a nothingburger.

I remember it because school was closed. I would have thought I was in Middle School but as it was 1985 I was in high school. Same year we last went to the Final Four so definitely a long time ago.
