Thinking of taking the family down to the Florida Keys for a week in November.

And while I've been to Key West plenty of times, I've never been in any of the others, have not even passed through.

So do any of my well-traveled redmen.comers have any insight/recommendations on the other Keys like Marathon, Islamorada, Key Largo, etc.

Traveling with a 3-year-old who loves to swim.
 
Be careful of speed in Marathon Key. Cops love giving speeding tickets.
Only thing of note in Key Largo is the bar where the movie was filmed.
Islamorada is worth a visit.
Is you have kids 12 17 stop at Big Pine Key. They have a camp,,,Sea Camp every summer. 2 5 weeks but worth checking out.

Key Biscayne probably the only sophisticated of the Keys and is the first one after Miam

Key Biscayne is not part of the Keys.

Fish House Encore @ mm 102..3 in Key Largo, and the Island Grill @ mm 85 in Islamarada are both excellent restaurants.

Snook's Bayside (mm 99.9), Snappers (94.5), and Buzzard's Roost are good options for lunch and or drinks.

Caribbean Club (site of Key largo movie), Gilbert's Tiki Bar, Lorelei, and Marker 88 are more drinking establishments with sunsets and music.

There is a turtle hospital in the keys (Marathon), which has become so popular that you may need a reservation. Depending on your son, he may be really interested in seeing sea turtles there that are rehabbing from various rescue maladies.

IF you make it to KW, the butterfly garden is something your son may really like.

The keys themselves outside of KW are still mostly old time florida, with a scarcity of chain hotels and mostly older motor inns. Key Largo has some nice restaurants and all in all, the keys have mostly kid friendly restuarants. (When our kids were small, especially my son made such a mess we'd tip heavily just for the cleanup.)

November is off season so rates should be low, and the keys being the only sub tropical climate on the US mainland that the weather should be as nice as anywhere. Have a good time
