Five Teams to Avoid in Your Men’s NCAA Tournament Bracket - Sports Illustrated

Obviously the three point shooting of SJU is a liability but I think it is way orrlown. SJU shot 30 per cent from three making an average of 6 per 20 shots a game. Had they made one more a game that percentage would have risen to 35 ,more acceptable.
From day one three point shooting was known to be a deficiency and Pitino knew the team was going to have to find other ways to make up for it.
Concentrating on both defense and offensive rebounding they accomplished their goal. These two parts of their game easily made up for the three point shooting deficiency The team also shot slightly over 50 per cent from two point range which helped in scoring just about 80 points a game. That 30 per cent figure looks bad but it is a small part of this teams game.

14th in point differential and 22nd in rebound differential.

I think these numbers way more important than threes, unless of course we are down three with the ball and seven seconds left.

I suspect many of the alleged pundits haven’t seen us play but , still throw in the stats on the 3. Point shooting .

Which is old news. We seem to have overcome that weakness enough to win 30 games and usually by double digits in the BET

Beating quality teams like UCONN , McQ , and Creighton
We beat UCONN twice , McQ 3 times and Creighton 2 out of 3.

Counting on us shooting 3’s poorly doesn’t necessarily mean our opponent is going to Win .

Plus , we generally take away the 3 away from other Teams as well .

A bit overblown on the 3 pt shooting stats, but not completely wrong. Kansas is a strong 7, and if they feel like putting together a complete game where they play like a cohesive team, they can beat just about anyone, including us. If SJU and Kansas win their first round games, that's a tough draw in the second round for us. I'd rather face Arkansas to be honest.

I'll add again, I think the shooting concerns are overblown. RJ has been shooting 40.6% from three since 1/18. Ayo is shooting 43% and Smith is 36.7% on the year (although he's been down since the injury). Wilcher is a good shooter....he was 40% last year and will settle around 40% for his career when all is said and done. Scott is a good shooter when he chooses good shots. Lefty is a great shooter that can gets some situational play.

I don't think this is a good shooting team, but I don't think it's a bad shooting team either. It has been a team that has shot badly. I think there is a difference. It's not like we have 5 Kadary Richmonds out there.

And on a positive arc lately.
