I believe our kids try to stay out of foul trouble in the first half....then the defense can be stifling in 2nd half. Next year, when we have 10 or 11 legit players it will be different.

I'm hopeful that hopeful knows to post this under the post game thread next time hopefully.

That was said last year about this year and we certainly are not deep! No question that we will lose some players to transfer and we will see how well their replacements will play. Much too early to predict how deep we will be.
Since Jarvis was ousted our guards have been blown by repeatedly and nobody ever filled the lane until this year. The change is remarkable. We don’t have great individual defenders either outside of Simon. The staff deserves so much credit for items this has really surprised me.
I think you are right about the fouling. We are just a different team when Clark, Heron, and LJ are on the floor and productive and I feel great anytime we can get into the second half with 1-2 fouls on that trio.

Clark has to stay away from those stupid fouls where he just reaches through people. Not sure if he is tired and can’t move his feet or if they are just dumb. Either way he needs to be more cognizant and not foul 30 feet from the hoop because we are a much better team with all those guys playing with 1-2 fouls in the 2nd half.

Are you related, or are you the alter ego of the esteemed poster, "No hope?"
My post refers to the last 72 games not just yesterday.
So now we have an alternate "first half/second half" coaching strategy to account for underperforming in games?
So our lack of depth has been the problem for 3 years. Got it! How many games have you seen that were comparable to Sunday's comeback in the past 72 games?
So I'll expect us to take it easy in the first half against Providence and then play 20 minutes of hell (catchup) in the second half. Just what my cardiologist recommended.
Last year early on(before Lovett quit) it seemed like we would fall far behind only to come up short at the end (Missouri, Arizona State are two that I recall). This year it often seems to be the opposite (Seton Hall, Butler overtime game, First Nova game). I don’t think there is a lot of rhyme or reason to this other then to use the cliche that basketball is a game of runs.

At least your negativity is consistent both halves.
Who says they “take it easy”? There is a lot of tools betweenbeing conservative with fouls early and not trying.
