Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends:
In April, I announced that alumnus William B. Finneran ’63 VSB, former University trustee, had given a $22.6 million leadership gift to the University to support renovations to the Pavilion and programmatic initiatives for the Villanova Men’s Basketball program. This historic gift will have a lasting impact on the University’s Athletics program, which is why I am pleased to share that, when the renovation is complete, the Pavilion will be renamed the William B. Finneran Pavilion.
Bill has often expressed his appreciation for the opportunities that were afforded to him at Villanova, and this gift is a testament to the profound impact his time here had on his life. He is a longtime, passionate Villanova Athletics enthusiast, and his generous support over many years reflects the value of the student-athlete experience and a steadfast commitment to ensuring its future at Villanova.
As Villanova’s prominence continues to rise, it is time for the Pavilion to undergo a significant renovation that, when finished, will more closely represent the growing stature of the University and Villanova Athletics. The goal of the project is to continue our Athletics program’s storied legacy as it moves into even greater levels of distinction, and Bill’s gift makes that possible. This significant renovation will completely transform the Pavilion—creating a high-quality game-day experience for fans and a home-court representative of one the nation’s premier basketball programs.
The Pavilion planning process has been comprehensive and inclusive, with valuable input gathered from the Villanova community to inform the overall renovation plans and goals. Once these plans are further along, I will provide a detailed update to our community about the project, including architectural renderings and a timeline.
I am confident that the Finneran Pavilion will be a point of pride for our University community, and I am extremely grateful to all of the supporters who are helping to make this vision a reality. Bill, in particular, has been integral to making this necessary transformation possible, so it is only fitting that the Pavilion—home to our storied Villanova Basketball program—will bear his name going forward.
Sincerely,
