Favorite place to travel and see SJU on the road?

With the Big East season quickly approaching I wanted to ask the experianced travellers here what away games are your favorites to attend? I myself have only done Fordham but I'd like to add a handful of away games to my slate the next few years. You can answer based on the city, the arena, the campus, the atmosphere whatever makes an away trip enjoyable for you.

Nova-cheese steaks after the game

Went out to Butler two years ago great experience. I do at Nova/Seton Hall/ and Providence every year. I am taking in marquette this year. As of now I would say Butler is the place to go.

UCLA a few years ago was great. I just hated the result. Of the Big East schools, Georgetown, Nova, Marquette, Xavier and DePaul give you big cities to hang out in before/after a game. Each with a different game time experience. (at Depaul, you will be in a big arena with about 4k people).

Providence is my personal favorite. It's far enough away, so that you feel like you've gotten out of NY. However, it's also still close enough to go there and back in one day, if you want to do that (especially good for a weekend afternoon game).

You should have come to the UCLA game during Lavin's last year there. Much more satisfying result. ;)

PS Pauley gets my vote as well.

Of course if you mean traveling more than 10 minutes then MSG gets my vote.

I've been to every Big East City, and spent a lot of time in places like Milwaukee and Indianapolis, but I'd say my favorite place is anywhere they send SJU to in the NCAAs. It's really a great atmosphere with som many fans fo different schools converging on a city. In Charlotte, lots of younger fans hopped into cars with friends and made a cheap road trip. There were also a good number of longtime SJU fans and alums from the Charlotte area. Definitely the NCAA cities when your team is in.

The new on campus arena for the University of Miami. The middle of winter in Miami is hard to beat. Worst place is the old Miami Arena, except for the weather. I had to fight off a mugger in the parking lot who was harassing my then 80 year old dad as he was getting in the car. Around then female golfer Jan Stephenson was mugged and injured her hand in that same lot attending a Miami Heat game.

The Dome was an interesting experience. 25,000 plus Mutants stand on their feet until they score a basket.

Other than Maui, 3 other SJU sponsored trips stand out:

Butler and Kentucky (a couple of years ago as well as The '85 Final 4)

Have been to away games at many of the "old" Big East schools (BC, PC, Syracuse, ND, Villanova, Seton Hall, UConn at Hartford, Georgetown, Depaul)

A trip to see SJU-Temple at The Palestra was a good one back in the late 70's.

NCAA games in Syracuse, Charlotte and Denver.

An NIT game at St. Joe's was great fun with Sir Dominic hitting a game winner.

Also remember a SJU-UNC game at Springfield , Mass, featuring Chris and Michael. We won !!

Great memories all.

Hope to get to Creighton this season.

Loved Kentucky. If I had to pick 1 trip out of conference to go that would be my favorite with UCLA being a close 2nd

When St John's and Miami were in the Big East, my brother and I would go to the games at the old Miami Arena. We used to park as close to the main entrance as we could and literally sprinted (a jog for most people) to the building. To say it was a shady neighborhood is putting it mildly. Not surprisingly, attendance was very poor in those days.It was easy to walk up on game day and get a great seat at a very reasonable price.

I wish that the St John's - Miami rivalry would be renewed. I love the new on campus arena in Miami and would like to see a rematch there in the near future. The problem is that, for the first time, the Canes have sold out every home game this season. However, I would gladly pay "scalper" prices for a Johnnies - Canes game.

I thought that SJU-UM was a nice rivalry, just like the Knicks and Heat some years back. Another option is an OOC game at South Florida in Tampa or against UCF in Orlando. What would be fun would be an exhibition game in West Palm Beach against NAIA school Keiser University, coached by 81 year old Rollie Massimino. Looie can fly down for the game, and get together with Massimino for old times sake.
