Father Shanley

By taking over the negotiations with Pitino in place of the AD and BOT and having the guts to sign Pitino Father Shanley has not only raised the standing of SJU basketball but his actions will result in increased interest in all of NYC college basketball.
Had he left the signing of the next SJU coach to the same old process a mid major coach would have brought and nothing would have changed.
 
While this is a fan based BB site , it needs mentioning that Fr Shanley while hiring Rick Pitino and wanting to restore St John’s to some prominence in the BE and National BB scene. He also has done fine work in improving the Academics of the University.

The Building of the new Health Science Center and the Re-Establishment of the Nursing Program are significant accomplishments of Father’s stewardship .

We need a long run with him as President and Rick Pitino as Coach . It’s pursuing excellence over mediocrity .
 
With the hiring of Pitino Father Shanley not only got a men’s basketball coach but he also secured a part time AD involving the men’s basketball schedule, the game arenas etc, He hired a marketing consultant in improving ticket sales and getting press for the team.
He also brought in a fund raising consultant to assist in securing donations for SJU. I don’t know what his salary was agreed upon but I am sure he is underpaid.
