Excuse Me Chris

I'm trying to not lose interest, but Mullin's understanding of what is needed is poor...and in a close game, he will be the difference. One of he worst coaches in the league.Didn't Ponds say there's a loss of team unity? I've watched Heron play out of control for several games now. He'' looking more like Ahmed, than the player I saw at the beginning of the season. This horsecrap with Ponds not shooting for an entire half...what was that all about? He's one of the best players in the country and needs to be full bore...all the time! He's become a creative penetrate and kick guard and he can make things happen, but he's kicking out to Simon...what the hell is that about? Doesn't Mullin know that Simon shooting threes is a bad idea?Everything that opposing coaches would like to see us do, Mullin is doing! Kieta has no offense whatsoever...no less any handle, yet he is receiving entry passes...why? What is he going to do with it? What
happened to occasionally using Ponds in the post? He is hard to handle there (just so long as he doesn't keep it too long...sometimes he doesn't respect the double and triple teams). Let's tell Shamorie he IS NOT Steph Curry! He is an average long range bomber at best. Every foot you back up decreases your shooting odds. Trying to impress
NBA scouts isn't good for our team and simply put, he doesn't have it from 3 ft. beyond the three point line (last mock draft I looked at showed he is way out of the first round). They already know that at the next level. Why doesn't Mullin have a zone in his bag? This is a very quick team and might be good in that defense....particularly to mix things up. Louie didn't use a zone...they don't play zone in the NBA? Is that your excuse? You're getting paid over a million dollars for this job. LEARN IT! Why is an assistant coach running a time out huddle. What other Big East team have you seen doing that? What's up with Marvin Clark? He's been shooting us out of games of late. Doesn't Mullin notice? Figueroa doesn't get enough touches. Even a blind mad can see that. And not to beat a dead horse, I'll say it again! The talent drop off after the initial starters is huge. I do like Williams, but he doesn't look ready to me. He isn't knocking anything down but dunks. Trimble and Kieta are huge liabilities in terms of team balance. They should be on the court solely to spell a tried player, or when fouls are an issue. Mullin substitutes with 5 minutes gone in the half...why? Trust me...Kids that age aren't tired that fast, and you are losing an opportunity where your starters may have gotten hot during that period. There are more opportunities to lose a game than the last 5 minutes! Every second counts! I can go on and on. Fact is....lately we've been wired to lose...and Mullin unfortunately doesn't know that!

Excellent post!
I was just thinking how we could really use another thread criticizing Mullin after a loss.
Yeah but Doc's posts are rare, and always well thought out, agree with them or not. Deserves it's own thread.

We can also use more criticism of Mullin criticism ;)

Is this you?

Marillac...Forgive me, but I'm not quite understanding you. Are you saying it's wrong to criticize Chris Mullin? Trust me..I have no intentions of being a turncoat. Our ballclub has done some nice things this year. I'm simply weighing in with some observations and opinions that I feel would make SJU better. So clue me brother. Do I need permission from you in order to do that? I've enjoyed your posts over the years. I've never disrespected you in any way. I've lost interest in posting because it always seems to become a battle of egos. Once again, we come here to exchange ideas. You don't have to agree or disagree with anything anyone says. But you always owe respect to your fellow posters. None of us know all the answers. But forgive me, calling others names here on Redmen.com is flat out wrong!

The first 15 minutes of the game, and I was ready to throw in the towel and agree with everything Doc said. In a must win game, the team was giving up open threes, and both ponds and Simon airballed 3s. Fortunately, Creighton was just plain awful.

Then Ponds did what he is capable of doing, and it gave confidence to the whole team. Which goes to show when great players play great, coaching is less important. Over and over, the announcer (forgot who) talked about how the staff stressed closing out on the 3, and it didn't happen until late in the first half. The second half the defense improved immensely.

While teams beat other teams because they have better players, coaching still matters. It is a skill set. The main issue for me is that if the season goes south, the coach has to go. Which means St. Jean has to go, since he does the scouting and game prep, and does a lot in the huddles. Mullin is still valuable as a dream teamer and member of the Hall of Fame. His knowledge of the game is not in doubt. His ability to have that translate into coaching a successful program is a different thing. I think Mullin has improved. I just think he would benefit from an assistant coach that knows the college game.

Marillac is a homer but he jokes with his offensive remarks. There are a couple of guys who only defend Mullin criticism with calling names. For those I would borrow your guitar and smash them across the head.
Just kidding of course.
I would sooth those savage beasts with a little Doc Butler.

Marillac, the Mike Zaun thing comes from a satirical Mike Francesa channel which Austour posted lol. It's hilarious if you go through some of that stuff...pure gold. I don't post my real name because I don't know any of you like that and it's the internet...ya know? I do hope to meet a bunch of you soon though. Come out to the pregame before Nova.

Doc, I am a goofball. My personality translates poorly over forums to those who don't know me. I'm having a little fun with the firing squad. I enjoy your posts.

Self proclaiming yourself a goofball is top 5 most corny things I seen on the internet lmaoooo

The old Marillac would have said " Maricllac is a goofball "

Marillac was my inspiration for referring to myself in the 3rd person sometimes. I loved when he would do that :)
