Everybody Take A Deep Breath

You can set your watch by the board's reaction. After every loss, there are posters who either call for one or all of the staff to be fired. I doubt any have sat through a practice to see what is being worked on.

What would you say if the jersey said Hail Mary University instead of SJU, and you were asked for a scouting report? You would say that the kid Ponds plays under control and can shoot, and has a lot of ability. You would say, depending on the game, that Mussini has good range when his feet are set, but is small, thin, and not very athletic. He has trouble handling quick guards, which you will find on most every division 1 team. You would say Ellison has nice size for a 2 but is careless with the ball and has a limited game. You would say that Yakwe can jump but has poor footwork, worse hands, and obviously has a big learning curve. You would say Owens has a nice skill set, runs the floor well and plays with a lot of energy, but is painfully thin and will be chewed up by most high division one centers. Freud? If you never heard about his Euro rep, you would question whether he will be able to contribute given his lack of muscle and poor hands, and wonder why, unlike many Euros, he can't shoot from 3. Do I even have to bother with a scouting report of Alibegovic?

When you lose to Del State and LIU and go down to the wire against CSUN, that is a barometer of your team's talent level and/or lack of experience. Wake up and watch the players and stop worrying about whether Mullin is holding the clip board. The team needs upgrades at the 4 and 5, and more depth. If he can't get better players, it's on him. If he gets them and the team doesn't perform at a higher level after a few years together, then post away. Until then, as it usually is, it's the players not being good enough.

Where is Marcus? I don't have time to read all the posts and finding little on the internet. With him and Ponds healthy in the backcourt, its a totally story in any game. The only thing I got on the net was 'walking in a boot'. Is he out for long?

All I can assume is that if we were playing for the NCAA championship or a real meaningful game, he would have received aggressive treatment and played. Last I checked, we lost to Delaware State with him in the game, proving no one can save us with the front court we have.

He was in a walking boot against CSUN, but not so either Thursday or today.

My guess is he will be back against Penn State. Has almost a full week now to rest it up, which is what I think Mullin was thinking about, when deciding not to play him today (I can't kill him for that, since that was my mentality, too).

The good news for those who don"t have season tickets is that by the time the Big East season begins you'll be able to but tickets for $5. Time for our school President to find a new career

I hope we don't have a Next President thread coming.

If our academic ranking keeps falling (currently last among Big East schools) I would expect a permanent sticky thread.

We have years of experience taking deep breaths. The last time I took this many deep breaths was during the Mahoney experiment.

Great, great post. Much too mature for this board but still a great post. Thanks...............

Matt A:

"Social media is a hell of a platform. Has given everybody the ability to act tough without ever having to be tough. Blame us not the kids".

About half of this roster never played a game of D-1 basketball before this season
Let's face it - Rome wasn't built in a day
There is great potential for the future in LoVett and Ponds
Ahmed's "JUCO ways" can and will be reined in over time
Owens has the potential to be a building block
Hopefully, Yakwe can be turned around and play like he did last year
Williams surprised the hell out of all/most of us yesterday
Clark and Simon will be good additions next season
Hopefully, we will have a serviceable big man in Brown as well
I have confidence that Matt A. will bring in more talent to supplement
The sky isn't falling - the future is still bright
There will be more ups and downs this year - keep the faith
