ESPN / ST John’s

I know you guys are worrying but when we win the BET in a few weeks, this will all be moot.

I don't think we should start looking past our first BET championship in 23 years. It would be folly.

However a deeper dive shows those games were against Holy Cross, WVU, Fordham, Nova, DePaul 2x and Georgetown. He could have taken 15 shots in those games and the results would have been the same.
4-0 in the Big East with a close road win at WV. Not bad.

Now, dial him back to 6-10 shots in our close losses and you don’t think many of them become wins? I do.

5-13 against BC, Providence, and Dayton with horrific shot choices. 5-17 in a 1 pt loss to Creighton including missing shots on final two possessions. 6-13 against Marquette including missing beater. You don’t think many of those games become wins if he allows his teammates to be more involved and get comfortable?

He has not attempted a FT in 14 games this year. In at least 3 other games his only trip to the line came on loose balls away from the basket in the bonus.

I’m looking forward to a new, athletic backcourt next year even if Dingle gets his 5th year.

I was mainly chiming in on the 7-0 record against some bad teams sans Nova.

To be fair, the BC game was lost for many reasons. Not just his 5-13. Dingle did get 15 shots, problem is he only made 3, including 1-6 from deep.
Game at Creighton was ours despite his bad shooting. If we come up with a 50-50 in the last minute we win. If the ref didn’t swallow his whistle on the last shot attempt by Dingle, we win. It was clearly a foul.
The PC game saw Dingle get 11 and RJ 14 shot attempt’s respectively. It wasn’t DJ being a ball hog.
Marquette game at home, saw us with 3 attempts from deep to take the lead. RJ with 40 seconds left, Ledlum wide open with 10 seconds and DJ’s final attempt. Can’t pin that on just him.
Not to mention his 8 pts after Marquette took a 13 point lead with 6 minutes left. He was the only reason we were in that game down the stretch.

yea once you go digging into the box scores the idea that Dingle's struggles are somehow Jenkins fault really starts to fall apart.

He's gotten a ton of shots this year, most of them good looks too. He just missed consistently. He had to reassess his game and work to get to his midrange, and now his FG% is shooting up during this win streak.

The victim mentality has really become too rampant in sports IMO. Someone misses a ton of shots, we have to try to prove it is someone else's fault. It is not. Props to Jordan for taking accountability for that in a recent Post article
