won't be back for a awhile. Out for Kentucky, probably next week as well.

Had a feeling something wasn't right after he missed the past 2 games, didn't buy the "modified schedule" thing. Those 2 MSG games followed by 2 days recruiting Jakarr were a lot to take on so early.

Wishing coach lavin, the best on his recovery. His healt is more important right now. The team is in good hand with Dunlap, We want coach back on the sidelines at 100%.

Maybe it would be in his best interest to just take the rest of the season off. This would allow him to fully recover, come back next year at 100%, and it may even provide a little stability to our program right now. As the article stated, going back and forth like this isn't really helping all that much.

If anyone knows details of Coach Lavin's surgery I would appreciate a pm from them.

I too went through a major procedure for prostate cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and if both surgeries were of the same nature I might be able to offer some meaningful commiserations

Just email him. His was a major "open" surgery where recovery and side effects can be debilitating.
Hope you are doing well!

Out of respect for coach Lavin, I don't think that people should be sending details of his surgery across the internet. It is a very personal matter and situation, and relaying information about it just isn't right, unless you have Coach Lavin's special permission to do so.

i agree taking the rest of the season "off" could be the best thing for him. coach dunlop is is an outstanding substitute and this season is going to be a learning experience anyway.

coach lavin's health is everything.

Hence the request for a pm but upon further reflection I think you're right.

If he's not up to it, I agree that he should take the season off, if that's how long it takes to make a full recovery.

But if that happens, we can't bitch and moan about recruiting, because no one will sign until he's better.

Of course, a kid that never considered us at all might catch a brilliantly coached game by Dunlap and think about us. Hopefully we start with Kentucky.

Great point, that's why the moaning about recruiting is so off base; anyone with any common sense would realize it already has affected recruiting. We have to roll with it because obviously SL's health is much more important than any or all recruits.

Coach needs to do what's right for him right now. The Great staff and players will take care of the rest. God speed his recovery. Go Redmen!

What do you think the effect of Lavin not coaching these games will have on recruiting for the Johnnies? They already had Ledo and Pelle decommit which are gigantic blows to their future success. It appears there must be some hesitancy for recruits based on the uncertainty and I'm sure there is some negative recruiting with other coaches getting in these kids ears about it.

Does it have an effect? Sure. The coach is such a big part of why kids choose schools, and it's natural for them to be concerned when the coach is away from the team because of a health issue. Plus, I'd be shocked if someone isn't stooping to negative recruiting. But, arguably Lavin's biggest strength is his salesmanship, and he's still going to be on the recruiting trail during this leave of absence -- in fact, he may even be out of town recruiting while his team takes on Kentucky tomorrow night. That bodes well for St. John's.

We had Ledo, huh?

My favorite line - "in fact, he may even be out of town recruiting while his team takes on Kentucky tomorrow night. That bodes well for St. John's"
