ESPN: Looking Ahead - St. John's

Really good article that said one thing that some posters need to understand. Lack of success next season is OK. We will be fine, it comes down to recruiting for the near future, and Mullin has surrounded himself with he right people to get the job done, which the article also says.

Hoiberg went 16-16 his first year at Iowa state. This is a process. He came back his next season and went 23-11 and won a NCAA tournament game. The rebuild can be done faster than some expect.

That depends how you define success? same win and loss record 1st year with some top 50 and 100 recruits on board for 2016 -2017 Yes that would be great under r that would not call it success.

Hard to tell if this article was about SJU or Iowa St..

CO and Jordan not coming back will result in less wins, but clearly those two guys would have been focused on showcasing themselves for the NBA and not buying into a team first attitude. The net result is a housecleaning, where there will be less problems teaching team oriented basketball.

Of course every single 4 star recruit has someone in their ear instructing them to disregard coaching and to showcase their abilities. But for this upcoming season there will be a whole lot less of that.

Hopefully, we will see signs of a young, determined team, that in the midst of a challenging season, opens a few eyes with an upset or two.

I do not agree by them not coming back equals less wins. I feel just the opposite Feel coach has assembled ardent players which will be a pleasure to watch and will represent SJU with wins and positive attitudes I hope

I felt like I just read a boring post on this site. That wasn't a look ahead. Did the author hit submit before he was finished?

I cannot downplay the loss of those 2 players. The fact is RySheed would've been our best player this year. He really took a step forward in the latter half of last season and I think he would have kept progressing on the court. As for Obekpa, St. John's will miss his rebounding and defensive presence on the floor. He was a brutal offensive player during his time here, but that being said he was one of the best shot blockers in college basketball.

Personally, I don't think the team has enough talent on its roster to be much better than .500 this year. But I'm very impressed by what I've seen from this staff already and I'm confident in saying great things are ahead for this program. Just may take a few years to get there.

If LoVett & Sima are eligible, at the very least, this will be a fun team to watch & one which should be quite competitive in year two. (If we land a solid 16 class) That works for me. If they surprise & make a better showing next year that's great, but not expecting much frankly.

And if they arent eligible?

Do andre stanley and/or Phil Missere have any eligibility left?

Would assume even a "rocket scientist" like you could answer that question.

That wasn't a preview at all, it was an article about comparing Hoiberg and Mullin, which was the hip thing to write about 3 months ago. How do these writers keep their job?

Getting everyone's eligibility in order is the big X factor right now. There's still time for things to go right, and for things to go wrong.

Way to much print spent on Holbergand Iowa.@ sentences would have office Did not tell us anything we did not know since coach took the reins

What?

Way to much print spent on Holberg and Iowa.2 sentences would have been suffice Did not tell us anything we did not know since coach took the reins

There I corrected his typing. My comment would have been, if you visit here frequently your not going to have any national or even semi regional scribe tell you something you don't know about the team.

I suspect many of the guys who posted on this thread (including the OP) didn't notice that the article is a month old. This is old news and not really worth this much debate, especially not at the end of July.
