Seems as I'm one of the few that gets ESPN3.
Anyway, heading into next week's first real game:

Gift is so impressive.
Best center we've had since Ty.
Mo, Dom, Greene, Harrison as good as advertised
Lindsey is so disappointing.
I expected Smoosh Parker from what I had heard/read.
Not getting Kyle Anderson was more critical than I had ever thought.
Youth shows in defensive lapses and intensity but that will improve with time.
I really hope these guys stay healthy and Amir is here in 5 weeks.
I expect a long season but as Lav said, it was going to take 3 years.

the score was very misleading. a very close game back and forth throughout. dom pointer saved the game with his signature great  defense. foul shooting awful. alot of bricks. we have to remember that st. mary's is the st. mary's of maryland a division 3 school. played more like st. mary's california tonight.

Honestly, I don't see Lindsey as being "disappointing." He's a bit rough around the edges (he's prone to get sloppy) as he had been out of organized ball for the past couple of seasons prior to last season. Not to mention, he hasn't shot free throws well in the past two exhibitions. Those are the two knocks I have on him at the moment. Both of 'em can improve as the season progresses.

IMO, he and Pointer set the tone during the last few minutes of tonight's game. Lindsey seems to have an uncanny ability to get to the basket at almost any particular time, and he has heckuva body control. He's not a shooter, but a scorer. I believe he'll improve, as he'll be getting quality coaching from the staff.

I only caught most of the 2nd half and the first thing is obviously foul shooting. We had 5 Shaqs out there. I didn't think that Lindsey was disappointing. Seemed to control things and get to the basket when he wanted to. He is 1 year out of juco so he will be sloppy at times, as will the freshman. GG does look to be more polished then I expected, but again needs work shooting foul throws. On a side note, isn't Lindsey a lefty. The announcers were real excited about him going to his left all the time, but I think thats his natural hand. Not positive about that. Either way there will be a lot of ups and downs this season. Looking forward to it.

I think this year will be about building our core of players. I didnt see tonight's game, but we have a thin roster with all freshman and JC players nd we came bsck from behind to win. A good sign right there. If we add Amir, we'll have significant core of experienced players coupled with new guys next year. I still wouldn't put it past this team to have w relatively decent year though. It's real early and we're doing some good things apparently as well.

As far as Lindsey goes, he probably needs more time too. He's a few years removed from any real coahing except one year of JC coaching at a low level Redlands. He has 3 years of eligibility left and from what I saw last game, has some real talent and tools. From what I heard he was real sloppy today, but it's possible he could improve quite a bit over time like our guys did over last season under this staff.

I agree with the other guys Tom, Nurideen has been far from disappointing. He gets to the basket whenever he wants. He just needs to start knocking down some free throws.

Goes to show how important Darrick Wood is next season as he is supposed to be a very good shooter.

Harrison is supposed to be that guy this year. Weird looking shot but knocks them down and not afraid to shoot.

I dont get the disappointment over Lindsey. The guy that needs to show me something is Harrison. He's not shooting as advertised and he showed tonight he's a bit of a hot head. The last thing this team needs is to get into a fight or pick up unnecessary technicals. Play ball and stop talking crap.

I watched the 2nd half. Sloppy for most of it, but the team was intense at the end, stepping up the D and making free throws. I too, was impressed with Nuris ability to get to the rim.

Come Big East time Lindsey will be our most important player. I think he looks good in 2 EXHIBITIONS! Sloppy at times maybe.. but this is magnified by the fact that he has the ball in his hands more then anyone right now. He gets to the rack from what i have seen whenever he wants and when better teams come at us we will need that ability. To break down this teams pros and cons right now is a bit of a reach.. Here is all you need Tom.. Pros we have a bright future.. Cons .. we are reallly young and inexperienced. That's pretty much it :)

WHAT IT MEANS: St. John's wins its second and final exhibition game of the preseason -- barely! -- defeating Division III St. Mary's (MD) 77-70 at Carnesecca Arena on Tuesday night.

Head coach Steve Lavin was again missing, as he continues to recover from prostate cancer surgery, which he underwent on Oct. 6. Assistant coach Mike Dunlap was in charge in his place.

THE SKINNY: St. Mary's, which had a 25-6 record last season and went to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight, hung tough with St. John's in the first half. The Red Storm led by as many as nine, 30-21, but the Seahawks scored the final five points (including a buzzer-beater) to cut their deficit to 33-31 at intermission.

St. Mary's certainly didn't go away in the second half -- in fact, the Seahawks led by as many as six, 54-48, with 9:10 left. The game was tied at 58 at the final media timeout, with 3:53 left to play. St. John's rattled off nine straight points from there to put plucky St. Mary's away.

BRICK CITY: A big reason why St. John's almost lost this game? Free throw shooting. The Red Storm were 22-for-42 from the charity stripe, including missing 17 of their first 24 attempts.

Shooting 1-for-12 from behind the 3-point line did not help, either. St. Mary's, on the other hand, buried 13 triples.

BRIGHT SIDE? This very young St. John's team got its first taste of playing in a tight game down the stretch. (Granted, it came against a Division III squad -- nevertheless, I can guarantee you there was a ton of tension running through those St. John's players' bodies, on the verge of an embarrassing defeat.)

WHAT'S NEXT: St. John's will open up the 2011-2012 regular season on Monday, when the Red Storm host William & Mary in the opening round of the 2K Sports Classic at Carnesecca Arena.

Lavin's status for that game is undetermined at this time.
