How lucky are we that we get to watch a St. John’s game on a Friday in August? Figured I’d start an individual game thread.

Predictions? What you’re most excited to see?

I’m most excited for
1.) Curbelo infusion
2.) Seeing how comfortable/ready Storr looks
3.) The fight for minutes at the 2/3

Someone mentioned before that it's not that important whether we win or lose...........totally agree.

What's important and I hope comes out of this is to see the maturity of the returning players (i.e. shot selection, decision making and directing the newbies). As for the new players, it's going to take some time to integrate into MA's system, but I'd like to see the effort put forward, especially on the defensive end.

But is sure is a bonus to see St. John's basketball in August.

Bench play needs to improve from last season. Looking to see how much better Stanley and Nyiwe look. We know what Wusu brings and Pinzon is projected to do well but Mathis, after having had a year in the system, may surprise as well and could start again this year.

Agree with everything said by Amase, MJM & Demo. Also will be looking to see how Pinzon, Storr and Posh's stroke from the outside look and whether Keita & Traore get any burn. But for me, #1 thing I'll be looking at in pre-season games is chemistry between Posh & Curbelo because I believe that could be difference between a solid team and a very good team.

Not since 2013 has SJU had an international, team building trip...Bring it on!...Super pumped!

From the St Johns game...visit with family for an hour...then Scherzer and the Mets!

In order for me
Curbelo-Posh chemistry
Jones to see if he has potential to completely fill the Julian role
Soriano devvelopment
To see how polished Storr looks
What do you think it will take to fill the Julian role?

Now I have to find a dominican restaurant near huntington to get some Mogongo to eat during the game or at least find a dominican beer to drink

all great points by everyone.

I’m just psyched to be able to get a taste or preview of upcoming season in August!

Gotta be something in Huntington Station...Malecons in The Heights considered the benchmark, the fried sweet plantains are like a dessert.

So for me ( and obviously won't be able to determine this just off this game ) but I'm looking for a guy who can score high teens close to 20 consistently and most importantly an Alpha someone who if others aren't scoring a guy who can be THE Man on offense.
Agreed. I think posh will be able to live in that 13-17 point range. Nice to have a guy who can get you 20 every couple of games or so.

It will become evident very early that this team will run through David w Dylan not too far behind him.

The most beneficial part of this trip will be Posh and Curbelo working out the kinks and finding where they're both comfortable working off each other both in transition defense and offense. Eliminating last year's stagnant half court offense should be easy w Curbelo now in the fold.

Most interested to watch the 3 freshmen, where they fall in the rotation and what they're capable of in a level up from what they're used to.

Personal preference, would love to see the jumbo package (Pinzon/Jones/Nyiwe/Soriano/Keita) against these small Dominican frontlines for a very short stint (2-3 min).

Hey...I had mofongo Monday at an outstanding restaurant in Haverstraw... I washed it down with cervesa Modelo. I hope that helps subliminally with the team's great vibes with each other. I'd like to see a couple of wins. Losses scare me. I'd also like to see a couple of stars emerge.

Don't need Jones to fully replace the Julian Role.
I expect more points out of each of the 1, 2 & 5 compared to last year

Especially from
2023 Curbelo 25 min, Pinzon 15 min & Mathis 15 min replacing :
2022 Mathis 25 min, Smith 17, Coburn 10 min & Pinzon 5 min

Remember Julian played more 3 than 4 last year.
If Jones can Efficiently replace Wheeler's 13 ppg
Then if at the 3 we get Dylan 6 ppg & Storr 4 ppg & Mathis 4 ppg we're in great shape

Jones should be able to replace the Champ of last season but probably not the Champ of the prior season. There was a major difference in getting big baskets by Champ between those two seasons.
