its a given, we all love moe harkless, hes been great and still has lots of upside. and slowly were beginning to see what amir garrett is really about, even hit a clutch shot today and is looking more and more comfartable with the team.

but this a not a norm roberts team, with that said its been quite a long time since a player has left early from our teams. you need to understand that not only do we have better recruiting and better players now, but to maintain talent you have to work double as hard. players will leave early. granted i dont believe its probable but there is a chance harkless and garrett do NOT play for this team next year. i definatly dont see harkless staying past next year, and dont see garrett staying past his junior IF they do return for next season.

recruiting can never stop... at some point you have to take whatever you can even if theyre not a espn top100 or even top 500. i dont think were going to have 12 scholorship players next year. it will be around 10. it is a good idea to keep a spot or 2 open but we got to start stacking up either now or next year because these kids arent burrells, or kennedys. i am gonna go out on a limb and say harkless will not be here for his junior year. and depending on how garrett pitches he might be gone too. 40% of your "star" recruiting class can be gone this year. as well as 33% of your rotation, and this scares me.

i do see dangelo, pointer and greene being here 4 years which is good that you have some of that core for a long time, for all we know dangelo can be the st johns all time leading scorer by the time he leaves, or at least hell pass felipe lopez in my opinion.

but we need to bring in bodies.fast. fill the team, even if we could do better, take what you can get.

I posted it months ago and I will post it again Dlo told me in early August he does not plan on staying more than Two years at SJU and he is doing everything humanly possible to make his NBA dream come true.

No doubt recruiting will make or break us as it is with most programs. Regarding Moe I think it's a matter of going somewhere between 15 and 25 this year as opposed to just about a certain lottery spot (maybe top 5) next year. I believe whether we recruit some bigs will be the biggest factor in his decision. D Lo is clearly pro material but the NBA judges kids as if it is a track meet instead of basketball. I don't honestly know how he'll stack up in that respect but it's real. Hardy was clearly the best player on the floor in many games against top teams and even did well in the physical tests but wound up in Europe. It's tough when they're 6'2-3" and don't move like John Wall. Depends on how long he can pass up the bucks Europe would offer. Garrett faces longer odds with baseball. Just throwing hard doesn't get you to the bigs these days and I doubt he can do both effectively. Anyone remember Gene Conley? He was so so in both sports. I guess his decision will be based on how he does this summer. Any way you look at it we need a lot of bodies going forward. Lavin's got to look overseas and take advantage of the NYC cosmopolitan population. They're also a whole lot less likely to have been spooked by all the rumors that are hurting us now. If we go into next season with anything less than 10 able bodies I'm going to be very disappointed. I don't care if they're top 10 or top 200 as long as they can give us minutes in the BE. This nail biting about fouls and injuries has got to stop. I know Lavin is great with top guys but I think he needs help finding and evaluating second tier kids. Both Roberts kids would have been good to have this year, especially playing with six kids. I have no idea what happened with Lindsey but it was pretty obvious he couldn't shoot early on. The fact that he landed at Rider is a pretty clear indication that everyone knows the deal on him at this point. Why we didn't I don't know.
So we have a feel good story regarding Steve's health and long term commitment. That's great.. Now what we need to go with it is some good news about the program.

I wish the kid well in pursuit of his dream, but unless he grows 3 inches he isn't making to the league.

dlo will never play in the NBA, period. mark it down. take a picture so you remember this easier. MAYBE if he gets drafted hell make it through 10 summer league games. other than that... hes going to europe.

hes not magically going to grow 5 inches. even if he does, he still would NEED 3-4 years of college to develop into anything close to a NBA player. i just cant see it. hes great, yes, hes a Damon Jones-type but even Damon Jones was better throughout. yea yea hes still a freshman, but if he thinks he can leave and make an NBA team without playing AT LEAST 3 years in college he is out of his mind.

House is actually a decent comparison, but he was an even more dynamic scorer in college. Granted, harrison has time. However, you'll notice House was drafted in the 2nd round. You dont leave early to get drafted in the 2nd round.

3angelo should stay 4 years, but he'll probably try and go after his junior year. There is no way he can go after his freshman or sophomore year. ALthough, with the advice these kids get these days, anything is possible.

I met Justin Burrell's highshool coach before his first collegiate game at SJU (can't remember his name). He told me that Burrell didn't plan on staying at SJU more than two years. Who would have thunk Burrell would have won the sixth mano of the year award in the Big East as a senior. Come to think of it -- I'm not even sure Burrell was our sixth man.

With the proper coaching and development, he probably would have had a decent chance to do that. He had an impressive freshman season, being raw out of high school, but then heavily regressed under norm the following two years.

I don't quite agree with what ShaqEatsPasta is saying, I think D'Lo has a chance in the NBA but I think we all agree it isn't easy for shorter shooting guards. He's going to have to work at it very hard. Moose, your posting of your link to Eddie House proves the point that shorter shooting guards can play in the NBA - but the link also proves some of the obstacles D'Lo will have to overcome. Check out Eddie House's transaction history at the next level: He was only drafted 37th overall after averaging 23 points per game at Arizona State his last year there.... and he was waived three times by three different teams during his NBA career.

House is a killer shooter. D'Lo seems to be becoming one as well....So Harrison has a chance at the nba, but he's going to have to work to be a perfect shooter and also have to be lucky enough to find himself in the right place at the right time in a system where a coach will allow him to get on the court. Heck, JJ Redick barely played his first few years in the league and that was after being drafted in the 1st round.

Harrison has to work on his left-handed dribble. He gets out of control sometimes when he puts it on the floor. He is crafty. His mid-range game is great, but he has to learn how to come off screens and work within a half-court offense to get good open looks at the basket. He seems to be a pretty good passer when he is in traffic. He definitely has a shot at the NBA... but it will not be easy to get there.

I think Erik Gordon on the NO Hornets might also serve as a some kind of guide. He's listed at 6'3'' and he was having a pretty good nba career until he got hurt this year. He was drafted 7th overall. He only stayed one year in college, and surprisingly he was drafted 7th overall with statistics of only 43% from the field and 34% from the three point line. He put up 21 pts per game. So he definitely took a lot of shots at Ohio State.

The most ideal comparison for Harrison would be against Ben Gordon at Yukon. Listed either 6'2 or 6'3'', Gordon averaged 19 to 20 pts per game and shot over 40% from the three point line. However Gordon was also a better athlete than Harrison.... but what made Ben Gordon special was that his mid-range game was amazing. It really helped him in the NBA.

If Harrison can continue to show/improve his midrange game... and get his three point shooting percentage up for an entire season.(i know he has averaged almost 50% the last ten games) .. then maybe he can make it at the next level... the thing that hurts him is that I bet scouts are unsure if he is quick enough or for the next level for his short height.

we'll see. it'll be fun watching him develop and see if he can make it.

3'Angelo has a TIGHT handle. God he's the perfect player in the last two minutes of any game. Combo guards are the hardest to evaluate even for a know-it-all like Marillac. He's so limited athletically, doesn't have good length, and let's face it, he's 6'2 in sandals. He'll need four years, but he's only 18 and he could fight his way into the draft.

If D'Angelo is here fighting for 4 years, we will be in fantastic shape.
