Bad move IMO. People forget where this team was before Lavin got here. Under Norm Roberts we weren't even involved with top 100 recruits. Whether he landed them all or not Lavin always had us in the mix, and if not for a couple of bad breaks (Non-Qualifers and transfers like Gathers and Polee) this team would have looked a lot different. A lot of buzz about brining in Danny Hurley. What has this guy done? Two 20 win seasons in five seasons at Wagner and Rhode Island. I much rather bring in Bobby or Mullen but who is to say they will be interested. My money is on them settling for a second tier guy......I hope Im wrong!
I like Mullin considering what the other options are......What has Danny Hurley done to be considered a good coach?
Does anyone know how to register for tomorrow's press conference?
I was a Lavin fan from the beginning. At the time I thought it was a great hire, or at the very least, a step up from Roberts and Jarvis. Even at the very end, there was a part of me that didn't want him to go...but then I thought of his last three games here and the drama that seemed to envelope the program and I was at ease with the parting.
Truthfully, I didn't want Mullin hired for the same reason I didn't want the Yankees to hire Mattingly. These guys were gods to me as a child and I didn't want to see them fail. The more I read and the more I watched on youtube, it hit me...how could Mullin possibly fail? The guy wasn't the most talented or athletic when he played but he was head and shoulders above everyone from the neck up on the court. The guy was cerebral and he worked his tail off not only personally, but to elevate everyone around him.
I said it the day Coach Mullin was hired...it feels like christmas. I'm 42 years old and I teared up watching the presser...seeing Looie and Mullin together just opened a floodgate of childhood memories. I'm all in on this hire.
All the best to Steve Lavin too. He always seemed like a nice guy and I can't thank him enough for getting the Johnnies at least relevant again.
This post has to count for more than 1 to het past rookie status. It might even be too normal and reasonable for the regular forumI was a Lavin fan from the beginning. And this poster should get extra points for taking a class with Mullin and Bob SheppardI was a Lavin fan from the beginning.
