Division 2 Prospect to Transfer / Drawing Major Interest

Mike Zaun has entered the chat. I just checked his size at 6'7 220+. Maybe he can be our center too in spots? Obviously being a wise guy but this is exactly the type of player we rarely seem to get other than Caraher but he seems better.

Wasn’t that kid at DePaul from two years ago a D2 transfer? Can’t remember his name, but he was very good. Could shoot and make some athletic dunks.

Caraher as a low major D-I freshman: 16.2 ppg 7.2 rpg
Trevor Lakes as a D-II junior: 15.7 ppg 6.2 rpg

More importantly Caraher shot 36% from three as a D1 freshman. He shot 25% this year. The better teams get, the better they cover the 3, the less time who have to shoot, the more uncontested three's, the more a defender is right on you as you release.

Big fan of this kid. He has good vision and is smart. Very much like a Butler kid and no surprise he was a one-time commit there. This season teams won’t be able to key on us in any specific way and Caraher is used to the speed of the Big East. He will be a valuable piece for us off the bench and doesn’t hurt us. Perfect type of bench player who can give us a lot of things.

If we are talking about Caraher, I would not be surprised at all if he ends up being a starter for us. He is playing with a ton of confidence, and it took most of the season for him to make the adjustment to Big East play. Right now I would say he is a known quantity.

I don't know how you can be a big fan of this kid unless you've seen him play multiple times and hopefully against D1 competition in exhibition preseason games. Yes, his numbers are nice, and his size helps to have 3 point range. But then again, we know nothing about his strength at playing against BE caliber forwards, or speed. Here we were so big on Max Hooper or Freudenberg unless we saw both of them play - neither were Big East players. By his own admission in the article, he says he has to work on his strength and rebounding.

You can be certain of one thing. If he goes to Xavier or Butler, he will make every wide open 3 he takes. But you can say that about just about anyone. :)

FWIW, Here are Freudenberg's 20-19-2020 stats playing in Germany. He is shooting 44% from 3, and 47% overall. Good for him. I'm sure being older and stronger (just 21 years old, believe it or not), improved as a player, and playing at the right level for him has helped a lot.

I have no issues with Caraher so long as he stops shooting 3's. He needs to know his limits. Take the mid ranger jumper and he will be a solid player.

He said he wants to play for a winner. I think that leaves us out until this program actually turns around maybe in another 20 years

If by 20 years you mean next year, then you are correct.

Why anyone is getting up in arms about a slow D-2 SF who won't be able to get his shot off as easily in high D-1 is beyond me. D-II big man? OK, I can see that. D-II guy with high major athleticism? Sure, take a flyer. Slow SF who you could find anywhere in the country coming out of high school? Thanks, I'll pass and never look back.

I watched his “highlights” on YouTube. We aren’t missing anything. Nice shooter, not great athlete. He should add some depth to a teams bench. I like what Caraher gives us better if people are comparing.

I bet if Doh was here he could really coach this guy up to at least second team all BE.

Agreed. He’s a rotation guy that good teams have as upperclassmen and we usually lack. Competes his tail off, will mix it up on the boards, as you point out has a nice mid range jumper and doesn’t need to score to have a positive impact. Keeps the ball moving, nice cutting action and is a good passer.

I said this about Earlington after everyone said he is not big east caliber.....dave carraher is a player.....he is scrappy....great passer....cocky....and he will deliver.....this guy is a winner!

He is also a great teammate constantly cheering on and supporting the team. I will never forget a video shown after a big upset where CMA walked into the locker room and DC was one of the first players to douce CMA with water I believe. He was jumping up and down in elation over the win. Those traits are very important and will be key this season when 5 new players join the team and have to buy into CMÀs rigorous practices. A player like DC who is not a star will be counted on to lead on and off the court and show the newcomers that if you do what is asked of you pt will be there.
