Disappointing.....

Reff'd a Girls HS BB game the other night, and the coach of one of the teams was Bob Mackie, CTK Girl's BB coach and CTK AD. Know him from Football officiating as well.

Told me Steve Lavin or any of his coaches have not been in his gym since they arrived. Now I know CTK has had some big-time recruits fairly recently, so if this is the case, its no great surprise as to why we can't seem to get the key NYC recruits.

There are people with a lot more knowledge about recruiting than me, so I will defer to them. Could it be a lot of recruiting is also done with the AAU coaches as opposed to the actual high school they attend? I would think you would form a relationship with both though.

I heard the same rumor in the middle of last year but since then we are recruiting DeLaRosa and Akins pretty hard. So not sure the validity of it.

Obviously I'd like to have Coach and/or his staff there planting as many seeds as possible, but I don't really see this as "disappointing." Lavin has killed it on the recruiting trail since he took over, and other than Calhoun there really wasn't a player worthy of playing at SJU. Coach sat down with Calhoun's parents, but it his MO to not waste time on longshots. He took the time to watch De La Rosa in Indiana and watched him multiple times before that. Coach has recruited a minimum of three CTK players, offering two that I've heard of. It's not like he is ignoring CTK players and it's not like he isn't landing top recruits. I'd expect the staff to be in attendance this year with De La Rosa on the radar.

a lot of these guys live to have their ring kissed and will lash out when it doesn't happen

There are reasons for everything. Will say this. Jay Wright makes it his business to personally know every HS coach of every top NYC program, and participates in local golf tournaments, etc. For Mackie to say that about Lavin means more or less that he has no relationship with Lavs. Then again, I've known CTK people over the years, and they have the attitude that they are some sort of pro sports franchise.

Bob Mackie is a LIAR. I personally went to some games at Christ The King. They were looking at a guard who played with Omar Calhoun, I think his name was Isaiah Lewis. They were also looking at Jordan Fuchs during his sophmore year. It is amazing how people can just out and out lie. Not sure about Coach Lavin, but Tony Chiles and Rico Hines were at CTK on a few occasions. Hope to see Bob Mackie so that I can tell him he is a LIAR to his face!!!!

Beast CTK and Mackie are Full of It. Like I said in an earlier post Tony Chiles and Rico Hines were at CTK on a few occasions. Some people have a false sense of importance and if their behind is not getting kissed, they start BS rumors.

Could you Marillac, Moose, Paul or someone in the know briefly fill me in on recruiting for 2014; I've been "enduring" the big 'D' and major earthquake like changes in my life; have not had the opportunity to keep abreast (though "I Shall Return" or at least survive :) )
thanks
all the best

Congrats SS&G. If by Big D you mean divorce, one day you will wake up and suddenly realize how much happier you are. Just don't keep the war going. It's not worth the headache.

Been as tough as "plebe year" (though not as harsh a Manassas, Gettysburg, Bull Run, Vicksburg etc. etc., but harsh) but my "band of brothers" has stuck by my side....as have two wonderful kids!
thank you very much simply red - I already realize the "happier than you are" part.

Assuming these are military references rather than disco songs, just call me Sargent Schulz but otherwise, hang tough bro.

Wish you the best. Hope things turn around for you soon. Keep your chin up

Was wondering where SS&G had disappeared to. When considering all the possibilities -- some of them pretty grim (look at our esteemed CR Green) -- it was good to hear of the reasons behind your disappearance ... and that's not to belittle or underestimate the pain and suffering a divorce can bring.

Anyway, good to know you're healthy and still with us. Your posts are always appreciated, and I think it's safe to say no poster is more courteous or polite than you.

Hang in there! Time heals all wounds.

Simplyred, Kranmars, redken, marillac, NYMase, maseibyourface, monte and whomever else - did I miss anyone???
I very much appreciate your support and kind words. Very much.
Working in the courts most of my life, I have seen tens of thousands of people pass by before me. Let me just reflect on this: when the man gets the kids and home, well then that says it all.
Blessings still exist:
I have no hate, animosity just want to get on with my life and find someone "kind" if you know what I mean.
My son at UMass and wrote me a love letter on how much I meant to him over the years, always there etc. I cried.
My daughter is wonderful on her way to law school, equally supportive.
And I have their dogs (black labraadoodle nad chocolate lab) and am moving on.
"You guys" are terrific and I am surprised and grateful for your support - and that from some of my West Point "band of brothers"

all the best

And oh yes, one day at a game I plan to wear an "SS&G" (three of my favorite generals of course) shirt and perhaps some here will notice it and come by to say hello. I have no faces behind any of the posters :)

You should try to meet up with us at some of the games. We all get together frequently.
