Just watching Digger and Reece Davis on the post ND vs Gtown game and they started to talk about about SJU.

Digger said on Saturday before the SJU vs ND game he started to do some "research" on what the Johnnies schedule for the BE tourn might look like. He said base on match-ups they could be in the quarter finals. Depending on how everything shakes out a likely Senario would be Rd 1 vs Nova he said I think they can beat them in the garden, Rd2 South Florida and they can beat then in the garden, Rd3 vs ND and well they already beat them in the garden. He though it was a possibly of them playing on Friday night and said all they would have to do is beat one good team and their in the Finals... Digger said hey remember what happened with Uconn last year?

Reece kind of chuckled and said SJU is young and talented but not uconn of last year.

As Davis said this Digger (our biggest fan by the way, he pulls for us against every one but ND) then said twice loudly over Davis "I love the Johnnies in the Garden!"

To me this was a coincidence because I had a slower than normal day today and broke out last years BE tourn. bracket and this years standings. I found myself looking at the same thing as him, for almost an half hour i couldn't believe it greatly depends on match-ups but if we get the right ones we could make a deep run.... Key would be to avoid playing Louisville and we would need to get ND on day 3, otherwise it would be 1 or 2 games and done.

Digger is awesome! He has fun with his job and goes out on a limb. Anybody can sit behind a desk and say UK, Syracuse, Kansas etc will win.

But if the favorite always won nobody would watch college basketball. Digger knows it's about getting hot, and having a favorable matchup.

I have been doing some bracket studying myself and if breaks go the right way we can make a run to the semis (if we don't get exhausted). We did play UCLA on a Sat and then Depaul on the Mon, which isn't as tough as the BET but we have played on short rest. I am hoping for the 11 seed which means we have to win one of our remaining 2. Mostly because I can go to the 9:30 game and not the 2:30. I think if we get the 11, and the 6 ends up not being LVille, and it seems 3 will be ND/Gtown/Marq, we can make a run. I really only fear LVille/Cuse, and I will say Cincy because they did throttle us recently and are big inside. I think we can play with anyone else so who knows. I am excited but lets first beat Pitt and send them on their way!

This isn't really going out on a limb. With a talented, but undersized, 6 man rotation, things have to break right in terms of matchups, we have to play well, and we have to stay out of foul trouble and avoid injuries. Despite finishing our season on a down note last year, not playing well down the stretch, we were finished when DJ went down. This year, if we get good matchups, and we play well, we can beat a lot of very good teams and everyone knows that. Eventually we will run into a bigger, athletic front line and it will be very difficult to win even if we play well.

Kinda ironic.... I was doing the same on yesterday. I really only worry about the teams you mentioned, as well, Upstate. I'd also place Cincy right behind Louisville/'Cuse. Otherwise, I feel we could possibly make a run facing the other teams in the Big East Tournament.

It could get interesting, if we get a favorable bracket.

seems like were all doing the same thing and afarid of the same teams. Although I would add Gtown to that list, they have a lot of good size. I would rather play cinci then gtown.

I watched Digger say this last night. I thought he was talking about the SJU ladies winning the BET (good shot, after beating no. 12 Georgetown last night, KBA has them on a freaking roll, baby!)

But NO, he said the men.

Some questions:

Did Digger say this because we beat his team, and our winning makes that loss look less bad?

Did Digger say this because he really likes St. John's at the Garden?

Did Digger say this to "stir the pot" or to be cheeky?

Did Digger say this because as the old Fordham coach he pulls for NYC teams?

Dunno, but I LIKE IT!

The biggest reason it will be extremely difficult to advance is because with 6 players we will be completly exausted after the 2nd game.

it all comes down to matchups although fatigue could play a part. Last year uconn actually had some good matchups and they made it pay off

Personally I think the fatiuge factor is way overrated for college players.

These guys are 18-22 years old they get tired during a game yes but even with 6 players a good meal and a solid night sleep each day they sould be all right every day. Even palying 5 days in a row should not be a problem.

If you were talking about NBA players in there late 20's and some late 30's I would agree. But many forget just how these guy are some of the best conditioned in the country and in the prime of their carrers. At that age fatiegue over days factores in little IMO.

You kind of had me agreeing with you about 2 games in a row not being a problem.

But saying 5 days in a row should not be a problem is absolutely ridiculous, especially the deeper they get the tougher and deeper the opponent becomes. Young kids in prime condition still break down and get fatigued.

They aren't superheroes.

If they win 2 games, I will be happy, but not as happy as if they win 3! Point being, I think some of us are expecting a steep hill to be climbed.

Bingo +10

Digger!!!!!! Way to support! I luv St. John's at the Garden too! A dollar and a dream! Hey u never know...

I have always posted about the Johnnies' chances at the garden, regardless of the competition I have always had confidence in them throughout the years.

If they win 1 game I will be happy.

I will be too. But I would like to see these kids go to the NIT, and I think they will need a few in the BET for that to happen.
