Delaware St., Tues. Nov. 29, 6:30pm, FS2/970AM

A much needed opponent, right now.
Yes, a win here and we can all go back to predicting 15-20 wins and a bubble or NIT team. :) We have all celebrated our recruiting victories (me included) but did you ever stop and think maybe that is why we got them? Williams was supposed to be our best player last year, ok injuries last year, this year he looks horrendous. Owens at 120 lbs gets pushed around under basket something fierce. Sima is Roberto Duran (Hands Of Stone) without the boxing ability). Yakwe, miles away from being an offensive threat. RF for those saying he has a picture perfect jump shot, it's actually quite awkward looking however to early on this kid and can't really expect much this his fr season. Mussini athleticism issues. Ellison, daddy issues-the only reason I can see why he gets so much playing time. Coaching issues-Mo too damn stubborn to hire verteran X and Os coach. Other than that all is well. Crush Delaware St. or whoever the heck our next game is against and all will be well again. Bamafan signing off from the Bahamas where the weather is fine, the drinks are flowing, and the women are hot so I am going to have a good time REGARDLEES as I am 4 more days of sun and sand! :) PS. for anyone who doesn't think muscle is impt our frontline was outmuscled and man handled by all 3 front lines in this tourney. Sat under basket for ODU game and you could see their rebounders jumping into our guys and moving them out so they couldn't grab the ball, especially Sima and Owens. Not to mention both have terrible hands.

Bubble NIT ugh I was hoping for so much more

I would start Amar. He may not have the most talent but at least we'll get max effort for the 10 mins he plays before fouling out and he can hit a 3. Pounding it down low doesn't work for us. Our bigs have no post moves. Sima always turns into the defense and flips up a hook that is never close to going in and never grabs an Offensive rebound.

Christian Jones would have been a nice offensive post presence for this team

I cringe every time Sima touches the ball more than 2 feet from the basket

A reason for optimism:

Ken Pomeroy has the following rankings as of 8:20 AM on 11/29. I know it's early but Ken does a reasonable job of incorporating a multitude of factors to rank the 351 Division I teams. Think about that if your preseason prediction had SJU with 20 wins. Obviously teams can improve or deteriorate as the season progresses.

SJU 99

Bethune Cookman 340
Binghamton 288
Michigan State 30
VCU 37
Old Dominion 98

Delaware St. 341

Should be 25-30 point win v a very bad team. If it gives kids a boost, that's fine.

Yes. I'm kind of hoping that this game does for us, what that oddly placed January game against Dartmouth a few years ago did.

If you recall, we were 0-5 in the BE, having just lost the infamous Max Hooper game against Providence. Dartmouth came in after that, no one was excited for it, and we won in ho-hum fashion (it wasn't a blowout, but you never thought we were in danger of losing either).

It didn't seem like much of anything at the time, but as it turned out, we just needed the win, to get the team back into the right frame of mind. That game actually launched a stretch where we won 11 out of 14 to close the regular season, putting us in NCAA Tournament contention (until we all know what happened in the BE tournament).

It looks like St. John's probably will go in to Big East play with the same 7-6 record they did last year as I do think they'll win their next five before losing to Penn State and Syracuse.
