Wow, I assume you guys are saying this tongue in cheek. This guy may have been recruited by Norm but he committed to Manhattan. Its pretty clear that many kids with let's say questionable character are recruited by all Division 1 schools. No way to tell which kid is going to take advantage of the opportunity or throw it all away. Current recruit Zach Brown is exhibit one A. He was arrested for armed robbery, credit card fraud etc. I realize charges were dismissed or lowered or whatever. Let's just hope the kid takes advantage of the opportunity. One thing is clear, CM is really rolling the dice here and it could blow up on him if the kid doesn't follow the right path.

Don't disagree with your post at all. Disagree with any poster who claimed Norm only recruited great kids

The recruits that Coach Roberts brought to St.John's had a far better graduation rate and more favorable academic attrition than the recruits the TV Announcer brought in.

who cares or said anything about that ?

Fact is Norm didnt just recruit angels. heck 99% of the kids he recruited didnt even come here anyway but it's not like he only recruited choir boys.

Let's remember that we have in our history a player who after leaving here was convicted of manslaughter. He was brought here by a Hall of Fame coach. This is not a criticism but unfortunately some people do bad things.

He also went after Lance Stephenson very hard. "Nice guy" label or not, he would have brought in Osama Bin Laden if he could score 25 a game.

Exactly. As would most coaches. I would have too :)

For the most part Norm recruited good kids. My memory is slipping with age, but did Stephenson have problems while at Lincoln? I remember the huge ego, but I don't recall of any specific troubles while he was at Lincoln. I also don't recall any of Norm's kids doing anything to embarrass the school in their time here or afterwards.

Lance got arrested for slapping his girlfriend while he was at Lincoln.

Wasn't there some kind of issue with Aaron Spears, early in Norm's tenure?

Think he got busted getting high too

I don't have any problem whatsoever with a coach taking a chance on a kid with some past issues, provided the the nucleus of the team the kid joins are solid kids. Which is why I have no problem with us taking a chance on Brown. Say what you want about Norm's coaching acumen(or lack of), but the nucleus of his squads were solid kids.

true. he definitely didnt just recruit angels though. Just for the record I had 0 problem with recruiting any of these kids who had problems no matter who the coach was.

Heck Norm at 1 point Norm was recruiting some kid that had a gun charge or something like that and I was one of the only ones defending Norm. I think his name was Roy Bright or something like that. I remember arguing with people on this site about it. My position is if we suck then I'll take whoever we can get :)
