Darien Williams

honestly i have trouble remembering this guys name. was kind of underwhelmed from seeing him play for all of 5 mins this season

In answer to the original question, yes Williams would have 2 years if he doesn't get a special exemption for a 2nd redshirt year for this year. He came to SJ with 3 years eligibility but also with 1 redshirt already. Any one of those more in the know think he could get this 2nd missed year back?

He's at St.John's.......not getting a special exemption. If he chose UNC, Louisville, Kansas or Cuse......maybe.

Hey, Grant Gibbs got one at Creighton a few years back. It's not quite as uncommon as it used to be.

I'm still really curious what he can be. He was one of the guys I was most excited about coming into this season. Gotta wonder if his injury is the type of thing he can fully come back from. He's still a mystery. An injury-plagued mystery.

You cannot come up with a true barometer of the kid's ability from last season, imo.

He may have been asked to do too much. On this past season's hodgepodge roster he was already an experienced player on the collegiate level (albeit JUCO). Then he was injured.

With more talent coming, maybe the staff can carve out a niche for him next season. And he may be a useful contributor.

I would not be in a rush to push the kid out just yet. He wanted to come here afterall (which means something to me). And after watching Jones become a respectable role player, having Williams turn out the same is not far fetched.

Very tough to try to play competitive basketball after a long layoff, compounded by a twice occurring injury. Shoulders are delicate and often become chronic. The odds are against him at this point.

as far as basketball is concerned, i hope the kid transfers. I dont see him playing at high D1 level with those injuries. I hope he continues his education somehere to get his degree but id rather use the ship on another prospect. just my opinion.

Another similarity he shares with Obekpa

Can't see him sitting out ANOTHER year, especially not by choice.

If he's on track to graduate after this year, then maybe you are on to something.

Let's see what (if anything) he can give us, first.

I agree with the injury part but I think you recall much of what you could do with sports especially with practice.

Real small body of work this year, but he looked super athletic and was one of the few outlets Mussini had when he was overwhelmed handling the ball. I'm excited to see what he can do, but with the deeper roster and missing most of the season, it seems like an uphill battle to any PT for him.
