Darcy on Nova game

i can imagine some responses to the quotes in this one. :)

Quotes are just that, but it doesn't look like Lavin has lost his team:

The players made available to the media Thursday downplayed the lineup issue.

"I think different starting lineups, it doesn’t matter -- we’re all capable of starting, we have a lot of great pieces on this team," guard Phil Greene said. "It’s just very competitive, it’s a very competitive team. It keeps practices going, keeps everybody on their toes."

"Coach I feel like always makes the right decisions," said fellow guard and leading scorer D'Angelo Harrison. "I think everybody on the team feels that way. He started Khadim, Khadim hit a jump shot and took a charge, he didn’t hurt us. I respect Coach for that, that’s a big move by him. He came in and produced. Hopefully whoever starts on Saturday, we’ll be ready for it."

That being said, I think Harrison could have a very big game, and look for Sanchez to bust out of his malaise.

So you don't think that what Lavin says is telling but you're gathering the team's mindset from what the players are saying PUBLICLY?? Got it.

What are guys gonna say publicly?? You think they're gonna blast the coach to the media?? C'mon.

Curious, but what do you think my opening sentence that "Quotes are just quotes" means? I wasn't referring to quotation marks, but that all public quotes are suspect. If you read the content of the quotes, I don't detect animosity.

Blah, Blah, Blah. Just go out and compete with these guys. Time to win a tough game! The "Karr had best practice of his life" routine means nothing. If he plays an intelligent game, makes plays, gives up the rock when doubled, battles their bigs, that means something. Not this Rex Ryan like "best practice" nonsense.

you just earned my 1st ever Thank You.

To be honest, I don't care about the starting lineup. If you want to start Branch instead of Jordan, fine. If you want to start Hooper instead of Dom, sounds good. If you want to start Obekpa instead of Sanchez, ok by me. What I do care about is the player roles become defined. Keep a point guard on the floor at all times. Put playmakers on the floor with Hooper to open up shots for him. Get Sampson and Sanchez to go down low, which is where they really belong. Encourage Dom to penetrate and be aggressive out on the court instead of passive.

And for God's sake, shorten your rotation.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Can't agree w you more, Paulzman. One thing we all agree on is Lavin is a great public speaker and does a good job teaching the kids how to deal w the media. But all the talking in the world can't overshadow losses. A win against Villonava and sustaining the momentum will go a lot further than clever quotes during an interview. Re; the starting lineup, we have a whole thread on it. Not too many people will complain if he starts CO over Sanchez or Greene over Dom. What people will complain about is starting Marco,Balamou, Gift or a walk on. That said against Georgetown Starting Gift instead of the walkon would have made more sense and sent the same message.
