Hard to see the parallels to the team 4 years ago. Big East was stronger, then. We had more high profile wins. We won the Great Alaska tournament. We won at West Virginia to start Big East play, which is really tough. The potential was there for us to break out then and we did. While I'm happy we beat Marquette the way we did, they are not that great. We are running out of time for signature wins. Need to win out with victories over Creighton, Nova, and Providence being especially critical. I'm glad we still have a chance, albeit small, to make it.

A lot of things went right against Marquette, but I didn't see any of the core issues get solved or even addressed; lack of X's and O's on offense, misuse of the bigs, especially Sanchez, and inconsistent defensive intensity.
The positive trends that I see are Harrison and Sampson are playing with confidence, and CO is finding his role. Jordan has a breakout game in him, but we still only see isolated flashes of what he has.

Well said Monty. As crazy as it sounds we still control our own destiny, but we all know that we have virtually no room for error. If we don't want to rely on having to win the Big East Tournament, we need practically run the table from this point forward. Come to think of it, our chances may be better in the Big East Tournament lol.

Every point made in your first paragraph is completely wrong. They ran plays---successfuly. The bigs played well, including Sanchez. The defense was terrific from the opening tip to the final buzzer. It may be an aberration, or the light may have in fact gone on, but those issues were all non-existent in the Marquette game.

You're right, the bigs did play well...I guess I didn't write my thought well...
My point was more that I still don't see any improvement on how they ran, say, a pick and roll (ex. Sampson setting the pick then moving toward the 3 point line instead of the lane) or using Sanchez's 6'9" frame to post up...run a play for him or at least through him where he gets position on the box...force a double team...
It's the fundamentals that I don't see game in and game out, and we have the talent and size.

I agree we haven't seen good fundamentals game in and game out. I just think that we did everything right against Marquette. I'm waiting for the next game to see if it continues or if we go back to what we have been doing.

Sanchez drives me crazy. It's not the coaches fault he does not post up, its his own delusion that he is a 6'2 shooting guard. His favorite move is to stand well behind the 3pt line and pump fake, he should never step foot outside the arc on Offense. He has some good tools but his jumpshot is terrible. He should concentrate on getting shots inside of 12 feet, when he does that hes effective. They have one play where he gets the ball on the elbow and drives, it works 100% of the time i wish they would run that more.

You say so definitively that it's not the coaches fault he doesn't post up. Pretty sure he is playing within whatever embarrassment of an offensive system we are running. If he was freelancing pretending to be a 6'2 shooting guard I think the staff would sit him down. Since they sit others for lesser transgressions. The roster is poorly constructed and there are overlapping parts and issues where people have to play out of position. And the statement that his jumpshot is terrible is laughable to me.

How come you don't see Obekpa or God's Gift doing the 3pt ball fake then??? Secondly I do think the staff is doing a bad job with the offensive system, and the reason I think this is precisely for not benching Orlando when he does this. IMO we are at our best when Orlando is on the bench, that's just my opinion (hes had some good plays now and then but is not one of the 7 best players on this team). When he plays like a traditional 6'9 PF he plays well.

Finally saying his jumpshot is terrible was a bit harsh, but his bread and butter is not as an outside shooter. Unless he's wide wide open or the shot clock is winding down lets go for a higher % shot.

Because in our offense we barely have ANYONE under the basket. And if we do its usually just Obekpa and Gift. Everyone has is allowed to wander out for a variety of reasons. How many times do you even see Obekpa or Gift at the top of the key as the offense runs around the 3 point line. I cringe when I see those two up there specifically. Personally I think Sanchez is lost in this offense. I think a lot of our players are. We recruit players just to say we have a top ranked player but they don't fit whatever staff is trying to do. Seems like its the case more often than not.

*For anyone who wants to know why we can't rebound watch when a shot goes up. Nobody near the basket. All around perimeter. FT line maybe closest to hoop.

Agreed. There were a handful of actual post ups in last nights game against Providence (Gift, CO, Sampson), and each time, the rest of the team froze not knowing what to do. The only difference at the offensive end during this good streak of games is that the shots are going down, but it's the same shots and the same (lack) of an offensive system, and the one who seems to suffer the most for an identity is Sanchez. He needs to be coached and it's not happening.
