Cuse/Nova

Did not see game yesterday since I was at the Barclay's Center watching St Johns beat Columbia. Watched the game this morning and gained an appreciation for how we played Syracuse. Nova was up 25-7 and then was out scored by 34 points during the last 30 minutes of the game. I can't help but smile when I think of how lit up this board would have been if that had happened to us. Fire Lavin, he can't make adjustments. Our team is composed of athletes with zero basketball IQ. The staff has not helped anyone get better, etc.
I bring this up to point out that there is a reason a basketball season lasts 30+ games. Some posters seem to live and die with every game, whether we win or lose. If we win, it was not by enough, if we lose the team, coaches and players stink. I will wait until the end of the season and then can realistically discuss whether it has been successful. Until then I will continue to root like hell for St Johns. Let's Go Redmen !!!!!

When Nova was up 25-7 and running them out of the building on their next possession all they did was run the clock down like they could sit on the lead. I knew at that point they were in trouble. I cant believe Cooney who was a scrub last year is this much of a weapon. Boeheim never gets enough credit.

He wasn't a scrub but a contributor. This year they will lean on him just like they will now with CJ Fair. Seniors at the Cuse each have their turn. Southerland last year.
By the way Cooley was shut down by the Johnnie's and Boeheim noticed and even stated it in his press conference. I guess Lavin deserves the credit for
addressing that defense, however I don't hear it here.

Good points! Boeheim does a lot more than roll out the balls. His signature defense has been a nightmare for opponents for his whole career.. And, getting elite level players to embrace that defense is incredible..

Cooley, like any long range bomber has the occasional poor game.. He missed a few early, never got in the flow of the game and had a lot of bench time.. How much was our defense responsible? Hard to gauge but, keeping him scoreless made the game close..

Boeheim has a long record of recruiting slow footed, hot shooting, smallish SG'S every 4 years.. , Headd,Hopkins, McNamara, Cooley,Andy Rautins, etc. Yeah, Rautins wasn't that small, like 6'5" He certainly knows how to get his style players.

Agree, in reference to Cooney being a contributor last season. He's a junior now, and rising to the occasion.

Cooney also had several offers from high-major schools when he came out of HS. ESPN (recruiting) had Cooney as the 65th rated player during his senior season in HS.

There is no way Nova should have lost that game after building that lead. The blame has to fall on Jay Wright. It would have been a huge win for the new BE instead Cuse of the ACC has st johns and nova on their trophy mantel. This may influence the ncaa committee when choosing how many BE teams to include in the tournament. I feel the johnnies are a bubble team right now without a marquee win. If I was a neutral judge selecting tournament teams, I would have to look at the way they have played and it is poor. They have squeaked out victories against teams they should run out of the gym, they lost to Penn State and lost the two chances to beat a marquee team when they lost to the Badgers and Cuse. Exactly what do we have to show? The only thing we have is good pub lic relations with Lavin and players who right now seem to be overrated as a team

Boeheim has outrecruited st johns for years and it is why we havent beaten a Cuse team for so long. It really all goes back to the near destruction of the basketball program at the time of the Pittsburgh fiasco and how Fr H addressed the problem with the program. The fallout from the Keita revelation didnt help either. I dont think it is Boeheim's zone that has beaten us as much of the fact that he has had better players. We came close to beating Cuse in Lavin's first year with that senior heavy team and the Dunlop strategy. I really thought they would have beaten Cuse in the BE tournament if not for the injury to DJ Kennedy during that game. We had them on the ropes when DJ got hurt. I think the current team has a shot to beat Cuse if they face them again but maybe that is the "fan" in me. These players have yet to really prove themselves

So, does our coach.

It wasn't hard to gauge how much our defense was responsible for Cooney's poor showing. Never want to give "your" team any credit. You're a joke.

This rivalry/grudge/hatred between the two of you is getting old. Like 72 said in his Christmas wish post either go out to dinner and sort out you issues or do not read each others posts...

Just a suggestion so the board can be more argument-free

It's a message board, so I'm entitled to read or respond to any post.

I'm also gonna call out someone who has a blatant agenda. By the way, take your own advice, in regards to not reading posts.

Thanks for caring. Maybe, you can pay for the tab. :ngrin:

What would you like, a message board with no arguments and no negativity? A message board is a dynamic entity where fans express themselves, good, bad, but never indifferent. Skip what you don't like or don't want to read but Paul has set up the rules for this board very clearly and intelligently. My suggestion would be if you don't like this one, start your own.

I am fine with disagreements and discussions/debates. I love them, and in my earlier post I said "argument-free" which was poor choice of words. I am fine with people disagreeing with each other, but it annoyed me when MJ and WCJ not only always disagreed with one another, but always tacked on personal jabs at the end of their posts. "You're a joke" and calling each other "morons" was what I really wanted to stop seeing. Not the disagreements though, as you said this is a message board, there are going to be debates going on 24/7, but I feel they should be respectful debates, not personal,

Stop discounting our role in his lack of production...Harrison was on him and did a great job - period...can't always be a case where we caught a break

Jack, you're right but, as most posters notice Dinko is incapable of civility or commentary without insult. In many respects he's a lot like FUN .. and, notice how he always injects a sarcastic note to those he disagrees with.. I guess the Administrators are ok with it, because they let it go..Although personal attacks are cause for suspension or ban. Fun is smarter though in a diabolical way..

Dinko was the same when he was on BEB and we know how well that site is doing since it was overcome by posters like him that only use insults rather than just commentary.

I have had my share of "disagreements" and I stand by my original thought; anyone who dosesn't like them should skip the posts. The mods do a fine job, let them police the site. I have had several send me private messages "suggesting" I cool it through the years and IMO that's the way to handle those kind of things.
